The top 10 Sci-fi movies Poll

I think these ftwenty five movies are among the best Sci-fi movies of all time. I also used the Semper's thread results to choose some movies in it.
Well, you can choose 10 movies among these which you consider the best scifi movies of all time. I haven't even seen them all listed by the way...based myself on IMDB ratings and few lists there for the ones I haven't watched.

It's Sci-fi, not fantasy, thus the likes of LotR, Indiana Jones, King Kong...aren't on the list.

Listed by name. Allowed revoting considering the amount of choices.

Re: The top 10 Sci-fi movies Poll

To even have a remotely correct list, the list of candidates to vote from would have to be huge. a list of mere 15 candidates is pointless to pick from...

I dunno, IMDB said it was. I will replace it. Added Star Trek 2009 movie.

I had 25 choices possible to had due to limit of polls which I did, if you check Semper's best all time movies, only 15 choices (polls had fewer choices back then).
I could have made a non-poll thread yes, but given now there's 25 options to poll I felt it was possible to do one.

My top 10 out of this:
Abyss
Alien
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Fifth Element
Independence Day
Metropolis
Stargate
Star Wars IV - A New Hope
Star Wars V - Empire Strikes Back
Terminator 2

Avengers, Matrix , T1 and Blade Runner came close to be in this top 10 but well...only ten can remain!

The list is to short with many greats not included and some real crap listed

If you're going to do a vote you should first do a nominations thread for a week or two, then set the vote of a shortlisted 'most nominated' movies

Independence Day and Minority Report I suppose you consider as "real crap"? :P
My fear was that some over-hyped recent realistically-average/just good movies would be listed a lot (well I haven't seen Star Trek 2009 so I don't know if it is average movie realistically talking) while some classics wouldn't (Metropolis, Close Encounters, Abyss...) come in the voting due to being nominated not sufficiently because people didn't see them or something. It wasn't really meant to be "I list my 10 fav sci-fi movies" as Semper also already did such a thread for movies in general. I just wanted to do like his "top 10 movies objectively talking" for Sci-Fi.
I based it out of IMDB ratings, I admit I missed a few such as War of the Worlds original, Things to Come (1936), Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and some more...

Yes I am aware Avengers is there for the hype but well I had to add one of these after all! :P

But if you want, I can start such a list as a parallel thread. As I am curious what movies would come out of these nominations (25 polled, 10 to vote out of that).

Re: The top 10 Sci-fi movies Poll

can't say I loved any of them.. and at the time Clockwork Orange was orginally written it would have been deemed Sci-Fi

Mothman Prophecies perhaps, Evolution, all time Favourite though might fit in Fantasy category more Rocky Horror Picture Show

What about The Butterfly Effect or Donnie Darko?
