I would say it probably has something to do with a multiplier that was input into the code wrong. When you slaughter someone and are supposed to get 500mil to 1.5bil if you do it to x amount of people and also get the kill it might be increasing the max from 1.5bil to 1.5bil^number of people killed. So say you killed 6 people you would get 1.5bil*1.5bil*1.5bil*1.5bil*1.5bil*1.5bil

which is a lot btw. comes out to roughly 11Septillion.... judging by your 18Septillion units I would say this is fairly accurate.
