Massing Questions

So help a newbie out here eh? Are the Attack Mercs being used as very cheap flak in this log? The game says unarmed units are entirely redundant but are they actually drawing fire away from the supers and regular raiders?

The attacking army starts as:

52,714,120 Super Soldier have Armed Military Fleet
32,285,880 Away Team have Armed Military Fleet
45,174,839 Away Team came unarmed!

50 full (15) attack scripts later (in under 4 mins haha) the attacking army ends as:

33,560,657 Super Soldier have Armed Military Fleet
31,237,323 Away Team have Armed Military Fleet

If the massive pile of unarmed attack mercs were used as flak obviously they didn't save all the legit raiders/supers but did they in fact mitigate the losses?

Am I understanding the strat or am I hopelessly way off lol? Dang Unknowns massing Prophets what a calamity indeed haha.

Yeap you are right. The mercs are used to flak supers, If you check the logs you lost more super defenders,than I lost super attackers.I also used only ordinary attack (not double strike),so I could lover my supers count,so I could bring new fresh miners to my account. If I was to use double strike the damage to you would be higher.And to add I was massing you with no ascended blessing,so the difference between our accounts was way smaller then you think...

I read a lot of old logs last night from the current combat vesion and the previous. Slowly things are making more sense. Except for this guy he baffles me greatly:

Attack also gets killed by lifer suicide. (Only up to 10% per day though.) No unit is safe (except miners, unfortunately, wish you could kill those too), and why should they be?


Anti-Covert Agents are exactly that, they go against Covert Agents and kill them, provided they overpower them and your strike overpowers their defence.

'tis a painful lesson; but someone seems to have been sloppy, so that is a positive thing for you. If you had 100m spies and now have 15m, you would still be a nice target for ACing (i.e. training AntiCovert/Assassins, and attacking your covert).


Note: Your Spies do not get killed if your attacker has no Assassins trained.

Your spies are only as good as your COV level really. If you have 100m spies and COV 30 it isn't going to take a guy with ANTI-COV lvl 36 very many AC units to devour your spies once your def is at 0

Say you have 100m spies and COV 38 it is going to take a fair bit of AC units and high AC level to strike them. DEF being 0 has nothing to do with this aside from the fact that any def at all really hurts the AC units badly.

They say to keep a good ratio of COV to DEF but once your cov is high enough it becomes less likely you will be sabb spammed because of the huge costs involved to the sabber. I say less likely not impossible of course.

Some guru's recently mentioned keeping GNR on hand to throw down glory defense weps after a massing. Those cannot be sabbed and it is unlikely (not impossible....) they will mass you again just to kill your glorys to get to your spies.

Try and picture your def/weps/spies as piles of naq when building a defense and factor COV level costs into the mix. We will assume 400b naq per 1m UU (although thanks to mH we may not see 400b UU again for some while haha):

1m DEF supers 400b + training costs 91b + weps 599b200m = 1t090b200m
100m spies 40t + training costs 350b = 40t350b

We won't even factor in the naq costs of leveling your COV but not even factoring in that mammoth expense you had 40t naq in COV complimenting 1t naq in defense. Clearly it would have been in your best interests to leave yourself vulnerable to sabbing instead. I'm blindly guessing here 40t would have been a very nice upgrade to your MS.
