Don't see why anyone would even be surprised at this.. lol
Or at any other NAP ending.. if you consider the games diminishing player base.. If the older/larger/stronger alliances/empires wish to continue existing much longer they all will need to either cut off NAPs or close their recruitment, perhaps both..
If they do not, their memberships, like the game, will start to diminish greatly.. Not many want to be a part of an alliance where they can't attack anyone, those that do are either inactive or afraid to get massed.. And then you have the loyalists, they'll never abandon that alliance and fight whoever, whenever to protect that alliance, but in peace time they'll become so bored of not being able to attack people, that their activity starts slipping..
Besides, playing with no NAPs is so much more fun..
But yeah.. TL;DR version - Games dying. Days of NAPs are coming to an end, and I foresee No Mass Pacts becoming more and more popular.
