Man, I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for him. Your commander should really advice you not to overdo your UP unless you're not planning to get glowy, but I'm guessing not many commanders go "Um... it's nice that you give me that much UP, but don't overdo it". I adviced my officers to stop at 3.5K-5K if they intend to ascend for the first time. It's really your choice though, there are pros and cons to both that I'd rather not discuss since it's borderline rule 16.
