Replicators from other planets (the ones who usually fought the asgard) were composed of a rust-resistant metal; however, when one crash-landed on earth and attacked the russian sub, it's children had to be forged with metals which were not rust-resistant and thus the sub could be sunk once the original queen replicator was destroyed.
