I had a 18/20 in a small test today. And for once, not in english!
In latin, yes, I'm taking back latin, gives skills and bragging rights.

I left latin many years ago, you must guess that such language, when you take a start again at it, it is done from the beginning?

Nautae nec incolas nec animales insulae non occiderunt.
I'm not 100% sure on that.

Congrats on the test!

Popster, dude, don't say stuff you don't know.. that's like being able to write your name, but not being able to read it.
Congrats!! Great result! Very nice.
Oh, and you, McJ, see you in that class that used to be called lessons in manners, but now is known as "streetcredkiller".

I'm aware of what it meant (I built the sentence by myself), I just meant if the grammar and stuff was accurate, if I used the completly accurate cases etc...
Thanks Jo
What does it mean?
Nautae nec incolas nec animales insulae non occiderunt.
Les marins ne tuèrent ni les habitants ni les animaux de l'île. (Been taught that verb is in the end of the sentence, in latin)
Sailors didn't kill neither inhabitants nor animals (from the island). It doesn't sound right lol

Re: Woot
Well done on the test - and here's a good phrase I was taught by a female friend when my man was being a git...
Nil illegitimi carborundum
EDIT: it may be wrong as the translators online can't find it but it means don't let the "illigitimate persons" grind you down

Re: Woot
According to wikipedia, it's not real latin...
I checked my 8 hundred pages latin dictionary, it confirms.

I checked my 8 hundred pages latin dictionary, it confirms.
From wikipedia:
There are many variants of the phrase, such as
* Nil illegitimi carborundum.
* Non illegitimis carborundum.
* Illegitimi nil carborundum.
* Non illegitimi carborundum.
* Nil bastardo carborundum.
* Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.
* Illegitimis non carborundum.
* Illegitimus non carborundum est.
* Nil illegitimo in desperandum carborundum
* Nil carborundum illegitamae
* Noli ilegitimus carborundum
None of the above is correct Latin. Carborundum is not a Latin word but the name of a mineral which is extremely hard and used for grinding. (See Silicon carbide.) The ending -undum suggests a Latin gerundive form, which is typically used to express the sense of "must be" or (in this case) "must not be", as in Cato the Elder's famous speech-ender, "Carthago delenda est" ('Carthage must be destroyed'); however, the word carborundum is actually a portmanteau of "carbon" (from Latin), and "corundum" (from Tamil kurundam).
