Re: Give me your opinions
I suggest the following order:Angnoch wrote:I just finished "The Idiot" by Dostoyevsky and I need a new book these are my options
1. The Brothers Karamazov: Dostoyevsky
2. Candide: Voltaire
3. Demian: Herman Hess
4. Siddhartha: Hess
5. Nine Stories: Salinger
6. Thus Spoke Zarathustra: Nietzche
give me your opinions and thoughts
2, 4, 6, 5, 1, 3, 2.
(Yes. That is 2 times you'd be reading Candide, but with 2 completely different mindsets. The books change your view of the world.)

And miss the light, but engaging entertainment of the Brothers Karamazov? I can imagine dropping Hesse and Salinger.. there's light, and there's featherweight.. but if Ang lists them, I suppose he wants to read them at least once.Dubby_CompGamerGeek2 wrote:2 - 6 - 2...

Re: Give me your opinions
we've not read any of those, so its hard to give an order of reading...
"Great holy armies shall be gathered and trained to fight all who embrace evil. In the name of the gods, Browsers shall be changed to carry the internet out amongst the peoples and we will spread Firefox to all the unbelievers. The power of the Firefox will be felt far and wide and the wicked users of IE shall be converted to use the true browsers."

sounds like a good order hun, I have heard great things about Candide so I can imagine reading it twice
yes I do wish to read each book at least once...Salinger and Hess simply for their story telling rather than their insights
Dostoyevsky is quite frankly one of my new favorite authors...so dropping the Brothers Karamazov would be tantamount to an international crime and no one in their right mind could skip Nietzche

Re: Give me your opinions
I've not read those books excepted Candide (I might have a go at the others...). Well, I bought it due to my highschool deciding to make us work on it, and I found myself interested by it and read it several times again. This sorta helped me to develop an ironical sense & critical view about things.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra: Nietzche
The Brothers Karamazov: Dostoyevsky
Siddhartha: Hess
Demian: Herman Hess
Nine Stories: Salinger
This is the order I would read them in. However, I have a relatively low tolerance for Salinger. I would recommend you read them in the order in which they interest you most; that method will insure the greatest enjoyment out of the experience.

good point, and agreed...
taking into account the order you prefer might change as you read each book.

Re: Give me your opinions
That it does. You finish one book, look at the rest, and decide to read one of the ones you had planned to save until later. It all depends on what you're in the mood for.
