anyone read books by her?

the following series by her that we've read:
Farseer Trilogy
Liveship traders
The tawny man

we recommend them all to those that read fantasy...

there are few books that we've read that we got so into that we missed the subway stop we were supposed to get off at... that happened with the middle series...

right now we've begun reading the first book of the "rain wild chronicles", a fourth series by her, set in the same world as the other three... we bought it yesterday, and its already got us hooked...

Robin Hobb is great

Try the Soldier's Son trilogy ... you won't be disappointed.

If you enjoy Robin Hobb, you will surely love Trudi Canavan as well.

we might look at that "soldiers son" sometime... read the back cover on one or two of them in the bookstore... will look at that other author later...

we've acquired those books now, will read them sometime...

just finished reading the first two books of the rain wild chronicles... excellent books as well...
rather interesting how dragons develop... but good to see that they're not the sort that if malformed at birth, cannot recover... we also like how elderlings are formed, and the fact that understanding about such changes isn't instant (like how to control an additional set of limbs...)
I havent read teh rain wild ones. I will have to purchase them. The soldier son series is quite good, i felt very sorry for the guy in the end. What is it with Hobb not giving her characters a break :smt089

you should acquire them... but we recommend getting both at once, since they were initially one manuscript, which makes the first one end in a somewhat odd place... (and a cliffhanger)

As for not giving any breaks... there are breaks, but they are not as noticeable... (sometimes they do span years, though...)

Hmm... We came across a bit of a competition that might be interestin' for those interested in some of these books...

Competition link wrote:Win 3 Robin Hobb books and a dragon figurine

I'm really excited to announce the very first contest here at theplenty.net! We're teaming up with HarperCollins in anticipation of the US publication of The Inheritance and Other Stories which is an anthology of ten classic as well as brand new tales from Robin Hobb and Megan Lindholm.

One winner gets this amazing prize package courtesy of HarperCollins publishers:

- a US paperback edition of Dragon Keeper
- a US paperback edition of Dragon Haven
- a galley copy of the upcoming The Inheritance and Other Stories
- a beautiful dragon figurine

And here's what you need to do to win:

1) Reply in the comments with your name and email address and the answer to this question: what is the connection between the character Ronica from the Liveship Traders trilogy and the short story "Homecoming" that is included in the Inheritance collection? (hint: you can find the answer on this site!)

2) Spread the word about this contest. You can post to forums, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Livejournal communities etc, just make sure that the place where you post is not a locked profile or community.
- Remember to include a link to this contest in your posting.
- Add proof (= links) of your postings to your comment here.

You gain 1 point for every documented posting you make and 1 point for the right answer to the above question. The contestant with most points wins. If there is a tie, the winner's name will be drawn. The contest ends on Sunday the 10th of April at 11PM GMT+2 (convert to your local time).

Good luck!

The competition is on an external site, but it should still be interestin' to those that might want those books...

I've almost finished the first book in the series, good series. Amazing writing, albeit a bit weird.

I hope the second book holds something more than the lack-lust ending. I hope it delves into the Red-Ship raiders and makes a bigger conflict than the first book had.. :?

we believe it does, but cant say for sure, since last time we read them, we began book 3 immediately after book 2...

the basic storyline ends in book 3, but the larger story continues in the other series in that universe... the full story behind the red ships (so far) is revealed in the tawny man books...

The Liveship Traders, do these books have to do with Fitz? :-k

I picked up all the books up until the latest in the Rain Wild Chronicles.

no, fitz does not appear in these books... they occur far to the south on the same world...
there are plenty of threads connecting these books to the farseer books and there are likewise threads connecting the tawny man books to the liveship books)
The rain wild chronicles connect all the books together even more...

The third book (and next) in the rain wild chronicles should be released around late this year or early next year, with the fourth coming about 6 months later...

Lame. I think I read the back of the Tawny Man books and it said Fitz was in those.

Very disappointed in the fact they may tie together in the same realm, but are not involved in the same story. :(

fitz is involved in the tawny man books... he's just not involved in the liveship books, nor in the rain wild chronicles (at least not yet)
