Weapon suggestion

I haven't looked at Origins since Sarevok took over as admin but there's a suggestion I always wanted to make, feel free to shoot me down if it doesn't apply to how the game works.

I've always thought that researching techs of weapons is annoying and stupid, look at main, once you have the top tier weapons there is no point in investing in lower tier weapons because they're weak and don't do as much damage.

What I propose is a distributed weapon system take for example (These are completely thumb sucked names and numbers) a grenade, a handgun and an assault rifle.

In the real world you have 1 chance with a grenade but it deals massive amounts of damage (Let us say 100). A handgun you have on average maybe 10 bullets and with the ability to aim you get the shots off that do, I don't know, 10 damage a shot. Then finally you have an assault rifle that you can have a massive clip of 100 bullets but due to the automatic nature of the weapon and spraying of bullets they manage about 1 damage per bullet.

All three weapons do 100 damage overall but due to ammunition the massive damage comes in short bursts and the longer lasting weapons (Provided you preserve ammo) do less damage.

I think it's an improvement on the whole, "The strongest weapon does the most damage and lasts the longest" because that system makes it pointless to have more than one weapon.

I don't think I got my point across but I don't care, I made good use of paragraphs and at the end of the day it's what I'm here for.

I understand what you mean, and you make an interesting point.

Currently the weapons are (for replis):
Bio Targeting Swarm 10
Explosive Nanite Spore 20
Offensive Reality Matrix 40
Terraform Device 75
Replicator Controlled BioForm 165
Advanced Resource Consumption 640

Iron Based cells 10
Carbon Based cells 20
Titanium Based cells 45
Trinium Based cells 80

Repli-Bomb 2,500

So, obviously the names would need to be worked, but its an interesting concept. One question about this is following:
Wouldn't the strongest weapon always be picked? Since as long as it repaired between hits, it's the best option? Or do you think that, since the others last longer, what would be an intensive for the massers, and heavy farmers of inactives?

I'd be interested to hear people's opinions

It is an interesting point, maybe not have the weapons all work out to the same thing so that a defense made up of weak powered weapons would technically outlast a strong weapon when being massed.

Alternatively of course you could make the most powerful weapon a once off hit, you invest in it to use it once, for instance an atomic bomb would be used once but do devastating damage, then the next tier down would do less damage but last longer and be irrepairable.

The further down the weapon strength you go the more likely there is that weapons can be maintained and repaired and rearmed. So lower tier weapons last a long time and can be repaired but wouldn't be destroyed in one go by a top tier weapon but they'd suffer massive damage.

I'm just playing around with the idea, it's all about finding balance between the different tiers.

interesting idea. i like where its headed, but let me see if i understand correctly.

one shot weapons that are destroyed after use

some weapons that require an ammunition to be used, if you don't have enough ammunition to use on them, they are ineffective and they also require repairing.

and some weapons are simple (knife) it just requires repairing



I think this would need to be tied into the ability to choose how many units you wish to send for each attack, would be annoying to have to sell my 1000 one use plasma bombs just cause I want to do some farming.

I'd probably have to have some way to say "Hey, what weapons do you want to use? Do you really want to use your nuke on someone with 0 defense...:

I was thinking about this very thing this morning :shock:


The way it's being discussed now i don't think it's possible to find balance....BUT...i do have an idea...

Instead of having weapons tiers we have weapons essentials, that means sending your troops to attack another account will result in massive losses for you if you send your troops in with offensive weapons only.
I'll try and make this clear. lets say for the sake of argument that you're playing as a Tau'ri sending in your men only having offensive weapons is well, not something done in the real world or the show lol. soldiers need body armour, communications equipment, weapons for close quarters and hand to hand as well as medium to long range weaponry, explosives, first aid, and so on. so for every offensive (same could go for defensive units) unit you have you will also have to arm them with the above mentioned equipment-1 of each (and other bits of kit i have not mentioned), otherwise your loss rates in battle will be MUCH higher if you just equip them with offensive equipment and nothing defensive....if you guys follow me? :?


If you guys want i could draw up an equipment list for each race?

Interesting. Very interesting.

Could it perhaps work similar to how the techs work on main? Idea as follows:
*Units have standard equipment.
*With no weapons, calculations are done as normal
*You can buy 3-5 defensive items, which reduce the chance of loosing troops in the fight by some percentage
* You can buy offensive items, which increase the chance of killing the opposition by some percentage

Thoughts?

I haven't played main in something like 4 years...maybe longer, so have no idea how main plays now lol....

I still have no idea how an MS can bring you back a planet, or how that planet can be used for attack :? i can only guess at how much it's changed since i last played it 8-[
