so when ascending is it better to sell of weapons for the naq or keep them for the APP?

You get no APP for ascending on New Grounds. However big you build, upon ascension all of it is wiped - except for Naquadah.
All Ascension power is strictly what you generate during your time at a certain level, until you use that power to ascend.

so the APP you get when you finally ascend to main is static/set

I'm not sure I understand your question. There are no APP on Main.
The account you get upon ascension to Main is exactly the same for everyone.

Could you rephrase your question?

the NG ascended you get with your NG main,
is there is no way to boost its APP like with normal ascended you get more APP for weapons, trained etc, if you keep them then sell?

trying to optimise the amount of APP available to my NG ascended when I finally get one

Ah, I see where the confusion comes from.
You only get an NG-Ascended account if you ascend your NG-Main account via the normal process on Main.
You do not get an NG-Main AND an NG-Ascended account when you ascend to Main, just a Main account at ascension level 20, without Ascended account.

NG has no effect on Ascended. (It should have from the start, in my opinion - but it does not.)

ah crap, only playing NG to get another ascended

So build in main to get the GnR in order to ascend..
