Russia? Although they're a fair way back still...
Australia? Didn't win the medals in the pool this time round...
France? Won a fair bit in the pool...potentially could rival us...

Interestingly too, China and USA are about neck and neck, but the USA have all their athletic medals to come...where's China going to get their's from?

"Chambers's previous season's best was 10.25 seconds, so whatever you think of him, that is an incredible improvement from the Briton."
Yeah, cos he's on drugs again #-o

Russia and Australia are usually high up the table, dont really know what happened to them this time round. They both have lots of medals but so few golds.
France are pretty close behind, I'm not sure how they compare to us in the athletics though.

Remember we have at least a silver in the tennis, some good hopes in the cycling and sailing! I think we can hold them all off tbh and I'm eying up China :smt047

Re: Errr, Olympics?

Britain's Andy Murray and Laura Robson beat Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur of Australia 6-3 3-6 10-8 in an hour and 20 minutes to reach the Olympic mixed doubles semi-finals.

Murray is not far off having two chances at gold...

I kinda want Fed to win the singles, Murray and Robson to win the doubles. Fed has won everything else, would really round off one hell of a career.

Yeah, kinda agree about Fed, and I dislike Murray after his "I want anyone but England to win at football" thing....but I still want the gold for Team GB!
Dont think Murray will be able to win both though, my hunch is that he will get two silvers which would be good for him still.

Completely forgot about the boxing too - who have GB still got in that?

Gotta love the cricket at the moment: With Trott and Pietersen batting, there are 13 South Africans on the pitch.

Re: Errr, Olympics?

Ogogogogo is in the Quaters on Monday in his category, same for Anthony Joshua and Luke Campbell as well.
Three hopefuls in the last 8 of their seperate categories. No idea what their prospects are though!

Ogogo was lucky to get through against the Ukrainian, but now that he has, he has a decent chance - not sure about the others.

1 more gold in the cycling, five more chances in the cycling, Ennis should win barring a screw up...Murray with two chances in the tennis...

...Prospects not looking too bad for actually finishing third. Now that would be scary...

EDIT:

Rank Country Gold Silver Bronze Total
1 United States 26 13 15 54
2 China 25 16 12 53
3 Great Britain 14 7 8 29
4 South Korea 9 3 5 17
5 France 8 6 8 22

Not too shabby, not too shabby at all...

Out goes GB football on penalties...oh dear :P

TBH I'm kinda glad we lost on penalties, I was starting to think I had moved to a different country with all this success!

T'was always gonna happen after that semi-final...just jogging his way through.

Wonder if Powell is injured for the 4x100m?

100m doesn't interest me that much simply cos of so much of the field have doping pasts - Gatlin (massive doper), Chambers (doper), Blake (has previous), etc, etc. Fill a guy with enough drugs and he'll go like the clappers...

Similarly, I believe that people in general are inherently flawed. Deep down, we are programmed to hurt one another; either physically or emotionally. People are naturally selfish and greedy; governed more by bestial urges than common sense or ethics. Society is a terrible thing, too. The more supposedly civilized we become, the more immorality and decadence become the main staple of our daily diet.
