Re: Recruitment Centre Guide 3.0

What is bumping?

"Bumping", or to "bump", is a common practice in the above listed sections used to 'bring up my post/post count', thereby moving said thread up in the forum and increasing it's exposure.

At certain points in time responses to your thread my be sparse/non existent, and your thread may just consist of your own original post and posts that just contain the word "bump" or other derivatives/representations. It is possible to "bump" you topic through management of your own posts.

Furthermore, it is no longer necessary to type bump and post it at the end of a topic to move your thread to the top of the section. This method, referred to in this guide as the "Bump Topic" link method.

This guide will explain how to preform both of these methods.

Re: Recruitment Centre Guide 3.0

The image below is generally how many threads are formatted in the above listed sections.

The components of the thread are:
  • original post of commander looking for officer, officer looking for a commander, or alliance member looking for members...in this case it is of a commander looking for officers
  • following bumping post(s)
  • delete button and post reply button avaliable to the poster, labelled (1) and (2), respectively

FIGURE 1:
Image

If you have created a thread and have not had any replies, it is possible to delete your last post. This is done by clicking on the delete button(1). You will be prompted to confirm this step as seen below.

You can only delete your posts and can only do so if no one has posted after it. When you delete your post the thread will be placed in the forum, according to time and date, of the last existing post in the thread. This may put your thread further down in the forum or pages away. Steps to counteract this are listed below.

FIGURE 2:
Image

Considering the example seen above, if the bumping post was deleted, the only post in the thread would be the original post.

After clicking on the delete button you will have the option to return to the thread or to return to the forum(seen below). Returning to the forum will take you to the forum the thread exists in, and returning to the thread will take you to the thread. Returning to the thread is useful if it will be difficult to find your thread if you were to return to the forum(if you think it might be far down in the forum, or it may be pages away). It does save time to return to the thread instead of trying to find it by eye.

FIGURE 3:

After your bumping post has been deleted and looking back to FIGURE 1, you can bump your post again by clicking on (2) and posting another reply to the thread.

Posting again, with new or updated information, will bring your thread to to the top of the forum, thereby increasing its profile and exposure.

Re: Recruitment Centre Guide 3.0

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • You can only use the bump link in a thread once every 30 minutes
  • To bump a thread you can be the author of the thread you are trying to "bump", or be the last person to post in a topic.
  • You can only rebump using the "Bump Thread" link after a new post has been posted in the thread
  • You cannot use the "Bump Thread" link in a topic that you are the only person who has posted
  • Upon using the "Bump Topic" link, the date and time of the last post will change. It would be misleading to assume that the last person was active as of their last post time and date.

You may bump a topic by clicking the "Bump Topic" link seen in FIGURE 4:.

FIGURE 4:

Upon clicking the link your thread will be at the top of the section. Successful bumping will prompt a message seen in FIGURE 5.

Re: Recruitment Centre Guide 3.0

Tips for those looking for commander...

Try to do a rudimentary calculation of the naq bonus you would get. Quite a few commanders that gloss over how many officers they have, so the income bonus seems larger...

PART I: Calculating the income you receive
  1. if they state total income:
    a. multiply that by 0.3 (if they operate on 30% bonus)
    b. divide that number by total officers he/she has + 1 (to account for you)
    c. see the bonus you would get
  2. if they state income to officers:
    a. divide that number by total officers he/she has + 1 (to account for you)
    b. see the bonus you would get
  3. if they do the calculation for you and present the income you will recieve:
    a. you have a number that you should be getting from them, but take into account/consider Part II

    PART II: Stability of income

Find out if you prospective commander:

  1. changes their alert level at night or during the day
  2. keeps the bonus at 30%, or if they regularly change it
  3. plans on recruiting more officers soon
  4. meets their quota of officers to recruit. If they do not end up with as many officers as they set out to find, ask if the percentage you will recieve (what they have quoted) will stay the same, go up, or go down.

Re: Recruitment Centre Guide 3.0

made some comments on the "bump link" method.. it is complicated...sorta

good if your thread has high traffic

right now I think the gold standard is to delete bumps or to 'bump' post

Re: Recruitment Centre Guide 3.0

finished...for now, compiling the 'conditions for using the bump topic link.
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=101534&p=1191193#p1191193

The 'conditions' seem to be the way the feature was set up in phpbb (way it is coded), and it's yet uncertain if it can be changed.
