MS - Conceptual Idea

Ok, was contemplating a destroyable MS, with what you might call a soft-cap on its power potential.

My concept is this, hope people can follow.

There is what one may call a power generator on the ships. These generators can power a certain number of shields and weapons per level. Something along the lines of this
Level 1: 100 slots
Level 2: 200 slots
...
Level 5: 500 slots.
Now, these generate power sufficient for combined Weapons and Shields. For example, level3 gives 300 slots, so you could have 300 weapons, or 100 weapons 200 shields etc.

With regards to the soft cap my idea is like this. Lets go with Level2 for arguments sake. This means you can have 200 slots for either weapons, shields or both. Basically, the effectiveness of the weapon/shield diminishes in power for every step over the power-level you go. For example:
First 200 W&S operate at 100% efficiency
Next 200 operate at 50% efficiency
Next 200 operate at 25%
etc...
This should be both easy to code, allow people to build however bigger ships they want, and once everyone has level 5 power generation, be on a relatively level playing field.

These MSs will NOT have slots of any form. You simply install more of what you want. And when they are destroyed you must rebuild them from scratch.

The working at less efficiency would need to be tweaked but it seems like a good idea. The whole working at 50% efficiency with 200 extra shields means you've got double the capacity running at half efficiency ie 1 ship that'll last longer against another one, but I get where you're going with it.

Only up to level 5 or will levels be like with covert where the price for the next level doubles as you go?

I'd rather not see it as an unlimited source, as it would give long term players a far greater advantage, though on the flip side, it would allow for a similar situation to covet levels in main, where there starts to be a soft-cap in that the amount of naq needed, is reaching almost unobtainable amounts.

Perhaps just starting with 5. And add another every few months or something. But i think a cap per-say is best. Since the actual number you can have is not limited, just they are less effective the more you go.

The other problem is, with unlimited, it means older players, could essentially build one so large, that it can't be taken down. With reducing effectiveness, you can only get 2x the power of the level. Since 50% + 25% + 12.5% + 6.25% + ... is 100% power. Which means, if someone has tech level 1 higher then yours, you can never equal their power, no matter how many you build

I do like the idea. A thought though, rather than having the ability to boost beyond the cap into diminishing returns, instead what if the beyond the cap was experience based?

Say if you have a ms with a 50/50 split between shields and weapons, as the ms and ms crew gain experience from fighting and they become more skilled with operating the shields and weapons at an even rate. This could be skewed one way or another so a 25/75 split would gain more shield experience faster.

This would make a battle hardened crew will be more effective than a newly assigned crew making the destruction of a MS hurt more, because you've not only lost the ms, but the crew as well.

This could also be applied in conjunction with the 'over-boost' idea from Sarevok.

A level 5 MS would give 500 units of power, and 'over-boosting' an additional 100%, in addition a battle hardened crew could give a 50% bonus to shields and weapons. Resulting in a maximum power core output of 1000, on a 50/50 split would result in a maximum shield of 750 and weapons of 750.

It's an interesting idea. Problem being, despite the number of battles you encounter, if someone decides to take your MS on whilst your offline, it means all the MSs you destroyed before for experience is lost instantly in 1 massing.

Perhaps we can tweak the idea of experience a little more. Since this is meant to be an mmoRPG, you have an experience "counter" per say. Every battle you engage in your crew gain experience. The more weapons/shields you destroy, the more experience you gain. This is applied to the "over-powering" to enable it more effective (perhaps instead of 50% for each level over your cap, it's 25%, but when you get to say level 20, then it is at 50% per level)

As i said, your experience goes up the more stuff you kill, and goes DOWN, when your MS is destroyed. I'm thinking something like 75% of your current exp is kept. Then it's not a total loss if your MS is destroyed, but it does mean, if you don't battle enough, you could well end up with like level 3 of 20 again.

after reading all the ideas...i dunno about all this. there is such a thing as over complicating matters. i say we stick with destroyable MS and some new MS tech is enough for now...


maybe later when we've had a chance to work out any bugs and whatnot. but for right now...i just want to see some updates to the game lol
