I am not talking about your personal favourites.
I am talking about the most influential and ground breaking, best watches out there. The best of the best. Best characters, and plots or saga's.
You can pick ten btw...
I went for..if memory serves..
Star Wars, Gone with the wind, To kill a mocking bird (attacus finch!), its a wonderful life, gladiator, the matrix, LOTR, The godfather, JAWS and TGE...I THINK...though I cant be bothered looking into another window to decide.
I made the selection from several other top 100 movies of all time list's.
I did not use some though, as they were solely fan based around the time. (IE Empires 2003 list was heavily weighted to the LOTR films and Star Wars, as too will their new one be weighted towards TDK, hellboy, no country for old men etc etc etc..and of course Star Wars.)

Just think about it for a minute... which one of those movies could you watch an endless amount of times and never get bored watching it? Never be like "eh, i dont feel like watching that". For me it was Gladiator, there are other but they ain't on the list

Koyaanisqatsi
Le Samourai
both of those outclass any of the films on that list. Metropolis is also insane in regards to plot and character developments, and the city. My god it's gorgeous.

The Godfather, The Matrix and The Great Escape.
TGE goes neck-to-neck with LotR, imo.
Dark Knight is not out long enough to have impacted the world as Godfather has.

Got to agree that The Godfather is a great movie.
I've yet to see The Great Escape. Agreed for the rest.
I loved Jaws, and disliked alot Pulp Fiction

I did consider Metropolis. Koyaanisqatsi is a bit odd and controversial, ergo, not on the list or anyone else's apart from the select few die hard fans. Le Samourai, i bet it is a good film, but not a great film.

I was only considering it at the end, when I was adding in some of the older films on the list (Gone with the wind, to kill a mocking bird etc..) In the end I thought they would win out, as this is general film, not solely sci-fi, and Metropolis wasn't as high as some on the grossing list, nor was it near the top of other top 100 charts, though had I more options, it would have been there, but alas, 15 is the limit, as there are a few more that deserve a place up there too.
The ONLY film that is on there because of my own personal opinions is To kill a mocking bird, all the rest I sourced of from other list's.
(BTW of all of the above, Star Wars was consistently ranked the highest, normally in the top 3.)
hmmm....four people voted, there are only 15 votes total, when there should be 40.

because I consider at least 90% of the people that would be answering this pole of equal idiocy and wanted to use options more in their ball court, even though the list is, most likely, probably leagues above them.
What can I say, even the arrogant get bored for conversation sometimes, so are forced to sink.

None of those films are worthy of top 10. Maybe Pulp Fiction but only because Samuel L. Jackson was really good in it.

Re: Top 10 Greatest Films of all time...
Some good ones there - my personal favourites among them being:
LotR
Godfather
Great Escape
Shawshank Redemption
Gladiator
To Kill A Mocking Bird is also very good - but the book is far better.
Star Wars would not be in my top 10 of those films (it would be lucky to make it into my Top 20) - I'm more of a Star Trek fan!
Surprised you haven't got other such classics in there, such as:
Scent of a Woman - Al Pacino/Chris O'Donnell (one of my all time favourite films, Pacino is awesome)
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - Clint Eastwood (it and the other 2 in the trilogy set the standard for spaghetti westerns)
Unforgiven - Clint Eastwood/Morgan Freeman/Richard Harris/Gene Hackman (great story, fine acting and excellent directing)
Usual Suspects: Kevin Spacey/Gabriel Byrne (masterful performance by Spacey/excellent twist)
Raging Bull - Robert DeNiro (DeNiro was awesome in this)
Ronin - Robert DeNiro/Jean Reno (set a new standard for action thrillers/car chases)
LotR
Godfather
Great Escape
Shawshank Redemption
Gladiator
