Q: Demi God numbers

When I got this account it had more demi's than it does now (lost some doing wreckage and evicted a couple)
Anyway, today I got an invite from one but couldn't accept as my limit had been reached.
What I don't get is why I can't have atleast as many demis as before, especially as I have been buying/doing the upgrade to M2s
