how is this calculated?

Maths

More specifically, a bit of addition with a touch of multiplication. Rumour had it there was also some division, but don't believe a word of it

I was hoping to find a calculation like there is for desired CER, and ToC.

I can't give you the exact formula as I don't know it, but this might help point the way. Only a few variables in this one.

Energy Flow Ability = modifier for Life Force recovery rate
Energy Channeling Skill = modifier for Life Force reserve refill rate

Both LF and LFR refill are calculated as a % of max (which is affected purely by MNEC). Higher the flow / channeling levels respectively, the more of a % you get.

Theoretically, a flow ability of around 2000 could fully refill your main life force over a single turn change. That's never been close to being tested though.
