Re: Racism

Indeed, there was no personal attacks from me. Just on what you said, like you did on what I said.
And if there was emotional stuff, there would be anger, "how dare you" "how can you do it to" etc..

I wasn't sad, I wasn't angry, so no, I wasn't "emotional".

There we agree...

And what you said about emotions...well. I am not a T101 or a lego. So everyone has them, unless they aren't humans. But as I said too, what I did couldn't be seen as what you meant by that, which means whinning, swearing, pesting, groaning, crying etc..

Racism/xenophobism, is one of worst things on earth, afterall, most of genocides and dramatical historical events came from those. Slavery, Shoah, Armenian genocide, Tutsi/Hutus war on Rwanda, Apartheid...

I would disagree, but it is pointless, no argumentative debate can be carried with you without being antagonised to such an extent as to be filled with rage. Ah well.. What can one do.

Bad examples for so many reasons I won't even begin to speak about it.

Now it's not even anger anymore, it's rage. I upgraded! :-D Am I Godzilla now or what?
But I believe it's more of a discrediting purpose used there towards me, sadly.
I noticed I didn't make a single statement about *you* (which makes me wonder how I could have done all those personal attacks I am meant to have done...), and on the other side it's filled with "you are this, you are that" on me.

Oh please do speak about it..if I'm wrong on these examples, why wouldn't you show us why I am?

Re: Racism

Lets try and stay racist shall we Jim and Jo?

On that note.

Racism is no different than calling someone gay, fat, tall or skinny. It just has a taboo history, which is why people feel the need to make it worse than it is.

It is not necessarily right..(well it is to a degree stating facts) or can it be amazingly different (when you embrace a larger perspective *he says feeling rather like Darth Sidious*) to defending a country for example. People are racist because they get defensive about difference in the community. Its change, change always scares humans, especially when we do not understand it and most do not understand different cultures, basic biology and beyond, so they act aggressive in defence. Pretty much what we did in 1914, 1939, Vietnam, the cold war and Iraq.

It is very complicated, but ultimately just another feature of our immaturity.

*High fives Jordan for some moral nihilism...*

Wait, you thought we were defending racism?

And what does racism have to do with IQ? Furthermore, what does IQ have to do with intelligence? To answer that question, one has to be able to define intelligence.

I thought you defined racism on its most basic definition which explains nothing much.

People being racist are often ignorant and stupid, because no matter what truth can be shown to them that their ideas are wrong, they'll still deny it and say they are right. They also are scared people on a certain scale.
IQ test is the only way to determine if someone is intelligent...

Re: Racism

Interesting thing about this thread - in the few pages I scanned no one asked anyone else what colour, or ethnic group they are.

@Universe - Legendary's list of examples isn't far of the mark. Apartheid was racism, pure and simple. If you want to try and contradict that, be welcome to. I'd say that the slavery and Shoah ones can be refuted, though the Shoah one will be an very interesting debate. As for the rest, I'd really like to see your arguments on those.

@Semper - with the current Jim/Jo debate I suspect that words are taking on meanings in the triplicate. :)

No. Racism was neither defined, nor defended. A statement was issued and this statement was true, regardless of whether or not it offered a solution to racism.

LegendaryApophis wrote:People being racist are often ignorant and stupid,

Actually, the minds who conceived theories that are inherently "racist" were often quite bright, if only sociopathic at times. In many cases, it's very possible to be bright and have a very well built argument to convince oneself of a false belief, because the elegant arguments are built on a small, skewed fact, a little error in thinking, or even an assumption.

The majority who believe something and do not question it, however, provide more evidence that they may be defined by such subjective terms as "stupid". This, unfortunately, applies to most people in most belief systems and quite specifically to those who blindly followed the lead of proponents of racist ideology. One doesn't even need to have a belief "system" to jump to conclusions, make assumptions and not question their observations of what they call reality.

Note: I wonder how many people will assume that I am defending anyone by justifying their actions as being due to an error in reasoning. The joke's on whoever would make such an asumption.

LegendaryApophis wrote:because no matter what truth can be shown to them that their ideas are wrong, they'll still deny it and say they are right. They also are scared people on a certain scale.

That sounds like most people on this planet. One rarely wishes to believe that they are wrong and many lack the ability to question their reasoning on the rare occasion that they are blessed with the ability to reason at all. Being sure of something - of anything offers a degree of security and being unsure of what was previously certain can easily make one feel insecure.

LegendaryApophis wrote:IQ test is the only way to determine if someone is intelligent...

Nope. First of all, IQ tests cannot measure intelligence. They only compare one's ability in accomplishing certain tasks to others' ability to do the same. Those tasks require the use of various skills, some of which, when put together, will form a fraction of what it is to be intelligent. Modern science acknowledges that there are various "types" of intelligence and no current tool can claim the ability to either define the whole of intelligence or even come to a given conclusion with an undeniable measure of accuracy.

Re: Racism

Since there's no other way to determine whether someone is intelligent, I suppose either we can say IQ is most accurate as of now, or we cannot say that a person is "intelligent", if we cannot determine intelligence properply.
