BS started by people suffering from aritmophobia. 20 12 2012 is a date same like it was the first day of 2000 when all of the ignorants thought that that would be the end of the world, or that all the computers will crash. IMAO noobs.

they didn't think the world would end (maybe the cyberworld would) but that computers (as you have said) would not be able to handle the switchover to the new date or millenium if you prefer....

i never gave it a 2nd thought to be honest, if the computers crashed in 2000 (after 2000 they thought it would be 2001) then we all go and buy new 1's...job done

don't sell the ancients short mate, they did indeed have advanced knowledge of both science (all sciences) and maths, you only have to look at ancient structures, the maps from the ancient world which clearly shows they knew about longitude and latitude. they also had advanced knowledge of the solar system and the orbits of the planets as well as the size and shape of our planet, which is locked within the mathematical dimensions of the great pyramid of egypt. eh? explain pls
these are things that were only rediscovered by modern man and NOT invented by modern scientists.
theres no way ancient people could have any where near the level of understanding we have now. sure they knew which foods to eat, how to make tools and how to do many things we cant today, but complex science was beyond them. there are many things which cant be understood with observation alone. computing and the accumulated knowledge of modern science has given us deeper insight than has been possible previously. how could a few ancients work out things it took millions of scientists hundreds of years to figure out. its impossible. sure they could work out some specific things but wide ranging knowledge was not within their capabilities.

you may want to look up things like the Antikythera mechanism (a device invented to track the planets course in our solar system, possibly the first computer EVER invented, and no electricity in sight!). that sounds plausible because of its nature. observation would allow the tracking of many things. if i watch a car going around a race track i can learn its route and how it will move. i could not, however, explain the physics which keep it on the road or explain intimately how it functions. there are limits to what can be known without the accumulated learning of scientists throughout history .

'm not trying to say that ancient predictions are correct or that they will be fulfilled (only time will tell us if they are right), all's i'm saying is to not sell ancient scientific knowledge short

they had some very good knowledge but much of it was rooted in primitive methods. some abilities were very impressive and surprising (ancient steam engine for example) but were never on par with modern capabilities. some specific (often simpler) things were advanced but on average the ancients knew very little compared with what we now know.

the piri reise maps are impressive and quite possible which adds to their likelihood of being genuine. dont know when the last ice age was lol its not on my FHM calendar but that would suggest advanced ancient map making to a certain extent. note that producing a map is a vital, and most importantly, applicable ability. people often are better at what they need to do. maybe the ancients lacked knowledge on things they didnt actually need to use.

lets also remember that MUCH ancient knowledge has been lost to both the ravages of time and mans own ignorance. the conquistadors destroyed a HUGE amount of evidence with their conquering of the "new" world. and many of the ancient libraries were destroyed by conquest and or natural cataclysm.
but was it important knowledge? probably not. much of what we knew about nature was lost as the world moved on but we have gained much more back than was lost. again, what the spanish destroyed wouldnt be anything near modern science. the loss of great libraries is a tragedy but only because of the history we lost. it would be interesting to see what was known. there would be shocks im sure, but not revelations.

natural selection does occur, although it has changed somewhat i think. and i believe people will still continue to have random genetic mutations. whether or not we will continue to evolve properly is an important question though. . .

as to the curing of disease etc leaving humanity vulnerable; id imagine we wont have much (medically) to worry about if we survive the next 50 years.


in conclusion, the world isnt going to end. if it does ill eat my hat with a garnish of humility

you don't know about the great pyramid being a representation of the earth in mathematical form?

i have the book in which i read all this stuff about it but its been over 5 years since i read it so i don't have the details to hand, and the book in question is over 700 pages big...i can get the details if you like but would prefer if you looked it up yourself lol

when i say something will happen i don't expect the end of days or anything that dramatic. as i said, personally i believe something will happen, large or small i really couldn't tell you and i don't have much more of an opinion other than we might be in luck and get some great photos from Hubble or something like that.
end of days, doubt it BIG TIME, unless its an earthquake or super volcano or an asteroid impact which i would probably put down to a coincidence and bad timing.

as for the libraries that have been lost, when the great library of Alexandria was burned the first time due to Julius Caesar burning the Egyptian fleet whose masts fell into the street and set alight many buildings including the great library, Cleopatra reportedly cried for days because of the vast amount of knowledge which was lost, much of this knowledge included mans origins (reportedly), gods testament to Moses, many other religious documents, scientific knowledge, historical records and books by ancient authors.

in the case of the conquistadors, i cant remember the exact details of this single event but 1 Mayan king gave a conquistador a huge solid gold disc with a massive amount of knowledge on it to stave off the mass killings, when the conquistador melted down the disc the Mayan king lost his mind because he couldn't believe his eyes or what this greedy man had done destroying the knowledge as he did.
reportedly the information on the disc was of such great import that the only way to guarantee it survived the ravages of time was for it to be inscribed on gold....this event was reported by one of the missionary's who accompanied the 2nd group of conquistadors. at first this missionary was there to convert the "savages" but slowly started waking up to the fact that these people were not merely savages but highly intellectual with vast amounts of knowledge about everything, including the sciences.
this missionary was present when one of the Mayan cities was burned and sacked and did his utmost to save as many of the documents as he could, he recorded all these atrocities when he returned to Spain...

i'll have to read the book again and get the names and details...meh, 700 pages for a slow reader, this will take a while lol
