I definitely think that prolonged weed use makes you more forgetful.

Re: weed, good or evil?
There is no conclusive & unbiased evidence that shows a link between the use of cannabis & psychosis. It may affect a pre existing undiagnosed condition or be a trigger event for an underlying condition, but we cant say for sure that use of cannabis will 100% lead to psychosis.
Most of the other 'side-effects' of cannabis use are similarly suspect, put bluntly we just dont know enough. Add that to the kind of people who are likely to use illegal drugs & you will find that a vast majority already have some existing weakness or illness that would predispose them to be affected by cannabis (such as already having a split personality or other mental disorder. Or a psyhical inability to correctly process & filter the drug out of your system)

There is a correlation between cannabis and psychosis. No question about it. There is sufficient scientific data to show that. However, it isnt to say that use of cannabis will 100% lead to psychosis it says there is a higher risk of developing a condition or increasing the severity.
Smoking weed can and will lead to Respiratory illness this has been poven time time again. (there always is some exceptions )
Other side effects, well it depends on what you are meaning, but i am sure that in most cases, it would occur.

No there isnt any correlation as you cant prove that the people who have taken cannabis & have mentla problems didnt already have those mental problems in the background.
There is no conclusive evidence that shows cannabis or even any other 'illegal' drug leads to pyshcosis if used correctly & responsibley. Of course I am talking about unadulterated version of these drugs ones that havent been cut with drain cleaner etc etc.

No drugs should be illegal, you can die from over eating, alchohol overdose, smoking to much.. makes no sense to make drugs illegal, just creates a black market that creates far more problems then the legislators like to think it fixes.

Not to mention the fact that the government could make a killing (no pun intended) from what they'd rake in on taxing said products.

i couldn't careless if we was talking about crack cocaine or meths, if i had cancer and those drugs were found to cure cancer, as much as i am against those drugs, i would take it to cure myself and the Govt be damned!

The main medical proptiy in weed would be THCs...
and they can be synthetically made, without the side effects of weed.
Meaning, medically weed is useless.

Artifically made THC is no where near as effective as naturally grown THC. So yes hemp/weed whatever you want to call it is still useful and needed, especially considering that THC allows otherwise normally terminal patients to live without the effects of their illness from preventing them.

@sandman:
kit-fox is 100% correct, artificial THC's are NO WHERE near as powerful as natural THC, and besides, who wants to ingest something artificial when a natural version is readily available?
at the end of the day, cannabis/hemp/weed...whatever you want to call the plant, is a 100% natural plant and should be accessible to the entire population for whatever use of the plant people deem fit...
1 more thing we haven't touched on, is the fact that the hemp plant has been used by the native American Indians for all sorts of things, from rope making (due to the hemp plants strength), to fishing...
i'll quote my brother after he saw the film Run From The Cure and with regards to fishing because he is a fisherman:
"there's no better bait than hemp so now i know why the buggers love the stuff so much!"

It still doesnt need to be used. To me, there are far better means of medication than weed.

Opium comes from a 100% natural plant, so by your logic it should be accessible to the entire population for whatever use of the plant people deem fit....

Hemp and marijuana are not the same thing. One of the most important differences is that marijuana can get a person high and hemp cannot.

sandman, can you please quote paragraphs in the normal manor, I.E outside of a quote, it makes easier reading?
not that i'm telling you how to post, its just a request, nothing more
as for opium, well i should have been more precise with my post...opium is HIGHLY addictive, and anything that is HIGHLY addictive in my opinion should be made illegal, that goes for tobacco as well, and i say that as a smoker myself.
what drugs would you say are better than the natural medicinal properties of all plants, the ones made by pharmaceutical company's?

Just because there is a correlation in the data do's not mean one factor has directly caused the other, it just means there is a relation. It could be that someone with a tendancy toward depression/mental illness will chose to use cannabis for the well known effects that may alleviate the way they feel ie. an attempt at self medication.
Also with respect to the respiratory illness risk, a cannabis smoker is no more likely to develop lung cancer etc than someone who smoke's ordinary tobacco.

what drugs would you say are better than the natural medicinal properties of all plants, the ones made by pharmaceutical company's?depends on the aliments.
Anything highly addictive would go from weed, porn, smoking, coffee, opium, any real drug,MCs HJs Burger Kings, Fast food......
Everything is 'addictive' and highly addictive....
Also being addicted is retaliative.
Not everyone who smokes marijuana gets addicted. But, some people do.
In 1995, 165,000 people going into drug treatment programs used marijuana as their primary drug. People who smoke a lot of weed sometimes develop a tolerance, meaning they need more and more to get high.
Some heavy users go through withdrawal if they stop smoking. That can include restlessness, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, weight loss and shaky hands.
Marijuana sends more teens into treatment than any other drug. The only way to prevent becoming addicted to weed is to stay away from it completely.

Re: weed, good or evil?
Actaully and I hate to be the one to bring this up but its incredibley hard to become psyhically addicted (ie your body needs it) to drugs such as cannabis, opium etc.
The drugs simply dont change your body chemistry on any long term, the addiction is all in your head. This is somewhat different to the family of drugs that say barbituates belongs to which are psyhically addictive & also hence why they are no longer used in such a flippant manner by the medical profession.
But opium especially is the source of many analgesics, without which pain managemnt of some illnesses or traumas would be impossible.
Again this is assuming pure forms of the drug that are unadulterated with any other chemical/drug and are used in a responsible manner.
