As for the on topic stuff... well.. erm.. I generally automatically dislike someone who ask's whether I like them or not. It's generally fairly obvious if someone likes you or not...but really outside of your internal circle you shouldn't give a dam.

Don't force it son! Take it slow, push gently and eventually the old girl that is the community will be moaning your name with ecstatic glee!
