Why bother with resetting the Ascending accounts if not to flush out the top ranks and make the recently Ascended do all their hard work again? The point was to make people work again, from scratch.
Also remember that Admin left it up to the player to decide whether they Ascend or not - no-one was forced to Ascend and give up all their hard work - and therefore everyone should have accepted the fee of the reset account.
Why should people have Ascended with all of their account? Because it was the right thing to do - the intention was always to make the players start afresh.
Is it fair that some people could Ascend with less than others? Yes, because those who Ascend with less have less in the Ascension server, and ultimately, because they always had the choice as to whether to Ascend or not.
