ms available for attack/defend while planet searching?

ms available for attack/defend while planet searching?
If my ms is our hunting planets, do its stats still count if I am attacked or if I attack someone? Do its stats count no matter which of my planets is attacked?

When MS is out it will not contribute in battle as it is not there, but the enemies MS does. So you take no damage on your MS but deal none too. And MS counts to rank when sent out
