Re: Obama spinns a good yarn.

Talking about his methods regarding the earlier protests, I wonder sometimes if the likes of Khadafi aren't sorts of Goa'ulds in disguise. Reign long, no alternative allowed, attempt to destroy completely attempts of revolt against their longstanding reign, cult of personality, clothes style... :smt107

I know it's serious stuff, but sometimes I feel like Stargate Goa'ulds were a metaphor of some past/present reigning dictators..

i dont belive its ok that just because gadafi has planes guns and tanksand forun mercenrys he should be aloud to blow up schools hospitals and homes because the peole of libiay held protests of which if you remember back to the start were peace ful
so you would rather their leader/government spy on citizens, illegally seize property of citizens, and molest them at airports?
Besides, those Libyan terrorists were never peaceful. They started violently right from the earliest beginning. Also, this is not a democratic uprising. If it were, there might have been 'some' legitimacy to it.. but now, hell no. Monarchist terrorists are just going to pull the same crap people accuse Qaddafi of pulling.

Oh, this just in: Arab Liga protests over-zealous use of violence by France, Britain and USA. Russia protests as well. China 'regrets', and considers 'protesting'.. HAHAHA. The world is turning on the Coalition.

How is that funny?

Journalists are on the other hand being arrested and detained in Libyan jails. Probably don't want to have foreign journalists to cover the news from there..I just saw this on Al Jazeera news, as I was curious to see about the change of opinion.

I realized it even more after I was linked towards Vogue (I think?) site which published a compilation of the most unique Khadafi styles. In few it was almost like his eyes were about to glow.

no my point is how can people of the west be advocates for defense against oppression when they in fact oppress their own citizens, again how can you assert that it is okay to run around telling the world how to run their own affairs while **Filtered** in your own back yard? all of what I said are things going on in the US (i don't know about other western countries, but I can only speculate the same to be true, or at least the majority of it.).

Re: Obama spinns a good yarn.

[I'm not going to quote any one thing, as I have a more generalized comment about all of this, but I did want to mention that I have read everything posted thus far.]

This entire thing was a double-edged sword from the get-go. If we (as in the UN and other countries of the world) had not stepped in, people would be appalled that we are just standing by letting Gaddafi -- whom no other country really likes in the first place -- kill the uprising people who oppose his leadership. By interfering, we aren't really helping things either. We are not only killing Libyan soldiers, but effectively making the Libyan military next to worthless by the time our interference is over. Which then means that someone (gee, I wonder who) is going to have to "provide military support" to the country until it can build it's military back up.

The US was never going to be able to make a decision regarding this conflict without getting bad press. If we took the lead on enforcing the No Fly Zone, there would be complaints of another Iraq. By staying out of it, Obama got a lot of backlash about being indifferent and letting atrocities continue, but Clinton stepped forward and took a side. And when the UN countries need muscle, who do they always ask to lead them? The US. Because why handle things yourselves when it could potentially be more efficient and require very little of your own military involvement if you just make the United States send their men and women over to do the job you want done. Yes, other countries are contributing (and I am all for that because it means that we aren't doing this all alone as the world looks on waiting for a single mistake so they can get upset and start the blame game), but they look to the US in situations like this.

I love how France and the UK took the lead on this. I am glad that the UN approved action before anyone did anything. But I do not like how the US always has to get involved to such a high degree in the affairs of other countries whenever the UN is involved. But if the US ever stood back and said "no" when asked to take part in a UN strike force the rest of the world would blame us for any casualties, because "if the US had helped us _______ would never have happened" or "______ people would never have died" or "it would never have taken ___________ months/years to accomplish our goals." It doesn't matter what decisions our government makes, the US will always be seen as the "bully" or the "evil empire" or whatever the popular term of the week may be. It really disgusts me how we can never be seen as the "good guys" when our military is involved.

Personally, I wish we stuck to the No Fly Zone limit and stayed there. Sure, the leaders of the world say that is what they are doing, but I am sure there is a way to enforce a No Fly Zone without bombing military vehicles and Gaddafi forces on the ground. It's just a loop hole to say that they never sent forces in on the ground. And it's BS. Keeping UN birds in the air to enforce the No Fly Zone and destroying the anti-aircraft weapons to keep them from being shot down is as far as I think this should have gone. Now we are going to have to pick up the pieces of the mess the UN voted us into.

LMEFFINGARSEOFF!

Let me get this straight, Ghaddafi is supposed to have killed some protesters so some of you are up in arms and propose to go over to his country and bomb the crap out of them in order to bring democracy to the people?

what if you're an unlucky innocent bystander (or few) who just so happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and a "smart" DU bomb is dropped on you killing you and irradiating everyone within sight...what's that called-help?

"That kind of help i could do without, Thank you very much" is the cry i can here from the people of Libya.

PS, what's the difference between Ghaddafi killing the Libyan people and some coalition force killing the Libyan people? :?

Re: Obama spinns a good yarn.

Methinks the world needs saving from these damned bleeding hearts who are in favour of bombing nations back to the stone age to get rid of some dictator the west helped put in power in the first place, helped them with their banking by giving them a nice place to horde all the wealth they stole from their people, stood by and watched as said dictator killed thousands if not millions of his people and are now up in arms and want to bomb a sovereign nation to get rid of 1 man because some protesters have died...better yet why don't we just bomb these bleeding hearts!

"Hey, Ghaddafi's bad and he's doing bad things...lets bomb him (lets bomb him would be great if they could actually do that, bomb him and him alone) and give these people freedom and democracy because we in the west enjoy SOOOO much freedom and democracy and we should let others have the chance to enjoy them as well" :smt115
