New Grounds was designed to introduce 'new' players to gatewars and get a basic understanding of the mechanics of the game. Given then end result is a Lvl 20 equivalent account on main, it taking a few weeks to get there is tiny compared to how long it would take you to ascend a fresh account on main to 20.

I appreciate that but the mechanics of NG however don't really do the main server justice. It is restrictive at best. I understand that if the raid and naq restrictions were completely lifted then theoretically you could ascend within a matter of days but those same restrictions are a burden to NG gameplay.
