they were similar some 100,000 or so years ago. But that was physical appearance. It is quite possible that they were not nearly as similar on the sub-cellular level. But this is probably impossible to verify. Unless you happen to have a record of typical Asgard genomes over the past 100,000 years or so laying around for comparison... *grins*

A Asgard could of possibly ascended while it was still possible within their physiology and helped some of the willing asgard to ascend when they lost their planet.

that additional bit o' information you provided does open for ascended Asgard, SS... but most likely there are not many ascended beings that would want to ascend any Asgard due to the choices the Asgard made so long ago. But still... We like the concept...

I liked Zeratul's idea that the Asgard may have considered utilising the nanite technology of the human-form replicators had not the war against that very foe not been so devastating.

Where I began my musings was more to give an avenue for players wishing to RP, whether in the forums or for just a general in-game mentality (who doesn't think they're Marcus Fenix when playing?). Given that, as Zeratul pointed out, the Asgard wouldn't have gone for his rather interesting suggestion as a race.

And that was my point. How many Asgard chose to disobey the High Council and not return to Orilla to commit racial suicide? Of those that disobeyed, what would they have done to overcome the cloning deterioration? Sought assistance from the Ancients? Experimented with nanite technology? Or furthered the illicit experiments of the Vanir and Loki?
