For those who know me, and that is very few here probably, I am Lord Nergal, in both SGW and SQW. I have taken a different style of play into both servers, different from that of many of my co players, and one I feel I should share with all, especially newbies not wanting to just stockpile naq and troops.
Instead of spending my many many first days building up unit production and spy level, i took the novel approach of building up my armies, my spys, my weapons, improving my UP and SL when I had the extra naq, or when I felt a boost was needed to protect myself from pestering spy masters.
Such an approach quickly moved me into the 1000's in the main server, and into the 200's in the quantum server, where I can still stand toe to toe with other players sporting massive, unarmed, ill trained, and generally weak forces.
Just a note

Lord Nergal I did what you propose and got sabbed of ALL my weapons. Therefore I had nothing because I had a low UP and a low covert level.
Work on UP and covert level is my personal advice to anyone who is new at this game. In main server I am ranked 2000+. However my UP is over 550 and my covert level is VERY respectable. My income is over 1mil naq per turn. I can walk into the top 500 within a day no problem. Rank is irrelevant. UP and covert levels are what win this game. It is no coincidence that all the best players have MASSIVE unit productions. So I voted the top one.

umm yaa... they are both good to use. the question should be what stage in the game you in a high naq preduction when you just starting is really a greate idea if you don't sleep and u stay by u comp every 30 min. but if you can't defend the naq u make then its time to upgrade your spy lvl

I agree with myfriend. A single playstyle will not win you the game. You have to adapt as your situation changes. Early on, the best way to get ahead is by having a good commander, and live mostly off their income while you're building your own. Use attacks on farms to complement your income. Later on you'll want to build a defense to protect your improved income, and spylevels to protect your weapons and make your naq invisible to other players.

As soon as you build an idiot proof system, somebody else builds a better idiot.
If it moves, kill it. If it doesn't move, kick it until it does move, and then kill it.
