We are but Peons

I work around a 9-5, 40 hour week rota in my job. The distance it is from my home requires two bus journeys in a morning, getting up 6am, to return home between 5.45pm and 6.45pm depending if I work the early shift or the later one. I try to engage in an active social life outside of work, but of course, have little time to do it if I take due care to get to bed at a sensible time during the week. With only the weekends to play with, and those consisting typically of getting hammered, I find myself tired and run down by the time I come back to work on Monday. This of course, has a negative knock on effect, to by both my mental and physical well being.

So, what am I getting at here? Well, are we all destined to be simple untrained military peons for the mega conglomerates, churning out our energies to supplement the pockets of the mega rich corporate folks whilst we run ourselves into the ground? I am beginning to understand why people do 'irrational' things, and by that I mean things that are considered beyond the barriers of social normality. It's a method of expressing our shear frustration at being tied into practically being a slave to the wage. After all, what is money where it can not be spent? As a wise man once told me, 'health is wealth', not money. But no longer can people live simple lives because the corporate chains are making a mess of everything, and natural living.

We are but peons?

(Slightly depressing for a Thursday morning but yeah, meh)

I feel you old friend.

Im so damn tired of working my ass off, saving as many pennies as possible like a good little boy, then getting my savings wiped out by some natural disaster (like a car crash). It makes things look really hopeless. Kinda one of those why bother moments.

We are peons. Sometimes I think the only people that have anything in the world are the extremely selfish or lucky. The coorperations are so well off because they are selfish enough to pay their workers less than they are actually worth. (Which is possibly a fair share, I have experimented with communist ideas in my younger days too) So in the end, If you want to get ahead, and stay far ahead, not only do you have to work hard but you have to be selfish enough to employ the peons. So its really a catch 22. Exploit or be exploited.

As for me? I have side projects that generate off the books income and a few more sources of income, plus an 8 dollar per hour job working part time. Why? Because I love it. I am happy with my place and title and everyone I work with is a friend. This is the key.

More wealth = more want. The rich will always find more lavish things to buy. Money doesnt end want. I think you and I have a better chance at happiness than most of them do though, because we understand this.

dont make me contact your employer using our underground employer contacting machine (you see, its string tied to paper cups run by mole people operators) and tell him youve become "dissillusioned" and "emotional" cos then itll be the whip for you!

(oh and on a serious note, taking two buses to an 8hour, 5 day a week job is not even nearly within the realm of a bad life... seriously, dont make me get all preachy about things and start spewing sob stories from people with really bad lives and im talking proper indentured wage slaves bad lives here... you have a good life, relatively. sure it could be better, thats the trick to these conglomerates success, everyone wants a better life and they show you how it can be by fertilising your imagination with fairytales of wonderful lives through whichever medium they control... look around, appreciate what you have, and if its really that bad, suck it up princess, take the plunge and do whatever it takes to make it better... serious hamburglar out.)

It's been a while Travis, and who better to post in my thread! Thank you, and hearing you too. 'Exploit or be exploited', it makes perfect sense. That is why I touched on 'irrational' behaviour, it is sometimes exploitation that is irrational behaviour, breaking the barriers of social normality. It's having the gaul to step and do it, to be counted. Glad you have! :P

I picked up something that was said on tele the other night, something like 'if you don't stand up for yourself you will flip burgers all your life' and if you look at burger flipping in a metophorical sense it's very true.

The whole thing makes me question who the hell is pulling the strings to promote this whole softly softly bullcrap within humanity? People are being brought up to beleive everything they see, especially on TV, it's a form of brainwashing is it not?

thats always fun...

and yes, tv has become a medium to up the expectations of life... look at my sweet sixteen on mtv or the oc... they portray uber wealth because the relative wealth the western world has accumulated they now bring in uber wealth to drive people on to want more stuff, like allow wheels that dont spin and swimming pools that can talk (thats my idea for a tv show anybody steals it and ill have em, itll be like nightrider crossed with baywatch, a talking swimming pool surrounded by sexy ladies in bathing suits... anywho...) i forgot what my rant was about... oh yes, bathing suits, they should be smaller and more transparent...

o.o

well, personally, as not a working person yet, but as a student, I already feel the monotany and the pressure. It\'s always the same old thing.

6:00 wake up
6:30 get out of bed {Its hard! >< so it takes a long time }
7:45 go to school
3:10 get outta school
5:00 end after school activities
afternoon: hw+sleep+internet etc
12:00 sleep
repeat....
again... and again...

but if you think about it... at least I have security in routine...T_T, It isn\'t all that.
And pressure is good for you, it gives you appetite...:D

And swim suits should be larger and more covering... <_<
