I always find it strange people only pay attention to internationals, im genuinely curious as most people i ask say its the spectacle rather then the game which i just dont get.
Good question.
Personally for me I have several reasons i like international football tournaments over national games.
1) - I like the "competition" between countries.
2) - I like supporting England as a team
3) - I like tournaments, but as number 1 stated it's more about the Countries competing against one another.
4) - These events only come round every 2 years so it's like a treat and doesn't become boring watching it all the time.

@ tek
Hooligans lol
Club football is alright, the premier leaugue is dominated by the same 4 teams every year
But the champions league is fun to watch.

I guess it comes down to how 'into' it you are then. I personally watch football from Spain, England Prem down to league 2 & play twice a week.
There hasnt been a hooligan issue in club football in most countries on a wide spread scale for a while. The italian Ultras are possibly the largest organised 'violent' group.
Personally, international football IS attractive due to the rarity of the tournaments (england missing out on the euros made this world cup seem like itd been an eternity since our last comp) but the weekly ups and downs of united eclipse the england team.
For example, as nervous and heart stopping the slov game was i was 10 times more nervous in say, the final day of this season where the league was on the line or the 2nd half of the cl before bayern delivered the knockout blow.
I guess i find it hard to get behind players (cole, lamps, heskey, crouch, terry etc( 100% who for every other year i cant stand. Not to say the drama of england isnt heart attack inducing like, united will be the death of me haha

5 - 0 Dutch win. Robben is back. Shudder in awe and terror!
Oh and yes:
North Korea vs. Côte d’Ivoire --- 0 : 5
Portugal vs. Brazil --- 0 : 3
Chile vs. Spain --- 1 : 1
Switzerland vs. Honduras 2 : 1
(Meaning Portugal and Spain are out, due to Portugal and CI ending up with 4 points, and CI just about overtaking them on goals. With DPRK broken as they are, Drogba will score a hattrick. Brazil will crush Portugal, there's no stopping Maicon. As for Spain.. Chile's been surprising, and Spain sucks. Switzerland wins their match on stamina.)

Let's not underestimate Portugal
that much...

They did beat NK by 7-0.
Spain did a bad start, then second match was ok, now they got Chile infront, they will have to bring best game. Chile on other hand are qualified, they don't want to do much more than minimal to keep some strenght for Group G's second. That's why I go for 2-1.
Portugal 2-2 Brazil
CI 4-0 North Korea
Spain 2-1 Chile
Switzerland 2-1 Honduras
Code: Select all
MP W D L GF GA Pts
Portugal 2 1 1 0 7 0 4
Côte d'Ivoire 2 0 1 1 1 3 1
Means that CI needs to win by 6-0 IF Brazil defeats Portugal by 3-0...to have random picking. Otherwise, they need to win by 7-0 against CI to go to next round without this 50/50 thing.
You mean taking the piss? Answer = No.
I'm not a football fan, i have no interest in it when it's not World Cup or Euro. So quite often the only penalties I see either go in the goal on the strike, or it goes off target for a goal kick, or it's the penalty shoot outs in the knock-out rounds.
So yeah, i genuinely didn't realise.
Ok, so tomorrow's matches:
Portugal 2 - 3 Brazil
Korea DPR 1 - 1 Ivory Coast
Chile 1 - 1 Spain
Switzerland 1 - 0 Honduras
Meaning Spain go home along with France and Italy.
Out of interest, what grabs you about international football that club football lacks?

When I try and get my Dad into soccer, I tell him to watch the Champions League. National pride draws people to the World Cup, but the Champions league is the best soccer imo. Those teams have played together longer/more often, so it's more fluid and the talent level's as good, if not better than the world cup.

Agreeing with your predictions, excepted that I think Honduras will score, they didn't yet, and will try to score to go out with at least a goal.
