WTH (Ombudsman) nomination discussion

Yes, a banned user would feel aggrieved that the Ombudsman is away for 2 days starting on the day of the ban, it's totally fair for them to feel that way.....yes...if the ombudsman is away for a week or two, it'd probably be best to postpone the enactment of bans (or at least the ones where warnings are being contested) or failing that make arrangements for someone to post for the Ombudsman.

Hate to say it, but thats a totally bad idea, because if you follow that route, EVERY bann will be immediately contested and hence they are left to roam freely until oms shows up, Thats not acceptable.

I don't think there's any forum issue so pressing and catastrophic that it won't wait a few days.

The ombudsman has a fairly free reign in terms of what he can propose, though. If you get the position, then I'm sure the admin will be more than willing to consider the idea of a 'deputy' position being created.

I agree with Mordack.

Jason has asked us to conduct an election for an Ombudsman.

Please do not confuse the role of the Ombudsman with that of Game Admins and
Forums Admins whose functions are entirely different.

i wasn't saying that it's a good idea, just that for the average banned forum user it would be their fairest outcome, people would always feel aggrieved when their ban happens at the start of the ombudsman's 2 week holiday. Arrangements should be made, sorry i didn't make that clearer but of course it's a terrible idea.

not necessarily pausing all bans, but at the very least arranging for someone else to receive messages for the ombudsman, this in my opinion, would be the main reason for actually wanting a junior/apprentice/associate/trainee ombudsman, purely for the logistical nightmare of co-ordinating the world's timezones, dealing with real life and the problems that would cause.

If the ombudsman goes away then the appeal process needs to go forward without him. I think the vice/assistant is the best way to handle that versus having lore or one of the other admins handle it as has happened in the last month or two.

Just playing mate. It is a pain tho when you do things to help someone and get slammed for being "bias" or trying to "sweep it under the rug" when all you did was carry it down the same path the Oms did. Mostly perception I think, IDK

regarding the assistant for the Ombudsman, I disagree.

Lets break it down...

the Assistant would perform what task's exactly with what powers? Are the forum admins willing to give a new role, new powers? Do we need a nother power role? One consideration..

ok, so assuming the assistant has roles, its like the Dr Watson..backs the Ombudsman up in arguments, helps him reach decisions and aids in 'investigations' (yet another interesting role the Ombudsman has acquired...). Is it really necessary? I think this point is something that can only be answered by someone who has been in the exact situation in question - a past Ombudsman. Jack, Bill...Mystake..

On the plus side, it is a 'back up' for the when the primary Ombudsman is away. They can also help mod the section (allowing the Ombudsman to actually concentrate on his job and prioritise rather than stall squabbling...)

It would also be reasonable to assume that this person would also 'take over' when the current Ombudsman left. An apprentice...as I saw Bill directly suggest earlier.

Personally I reckon there should be two roles in the Ombudsman corner.

Role 1: The Ombudsman - the guy who helps mitigate forum action perception, enhance communication between two the parties and generally help to compromise and reach agreements from both sides.

Role 2: The Sheriff - The guy who cleans up the Ombudsmans threads, stops the Mods and the Users from getting too out of control, locking threads that are to be dealt with, and of course understudying the Ombudsman and helping with the Ombudsmans roles should he wish... this guy is like.. the mod of mods. Second to no one, but only active, and with power in one place.

IN the CURRENT situation it would be near enough a stones throw away from a court case, the Ombudsman being the barristers for both sides and Jury, the Sheriff being the Judge.

I also add here a few other points that I think should be considered...

the Ombudsman should not be in the big war or one of the two major powers. For obvious reasons, if there is not going to be claims and troubles surrounding Bias, then there actually will be Bias...leading to endless problems.

If hes dedicated and carries a phone on Vac and never away more then 48 hrs then he doesnt need help, if hes more laid back, takes 4 day weekends a month off, then he may want someone, if hes like me and not "tech" savy he may want a techy sidekick.

And as for sides of the War, I totally disagree, if you cant lay your taggs down you dont deserve the job to begin with, beside the war will end,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,one day

well I am assuming that you only disagree with my belief of how the 'sidekick' should work and the war part... (if not please state..)

well the war and the tags.. yes.. and yes I agree with your points, but you know as well as I do lore that in life, and especially on these forums and the game... thats not necessarily the case, and in fact most of the time it is NOT the case. Not to mention it will not remove the ability for someone to claim Bias on reasonable grounds, in law being affiliated with a person in a manner such as this would make you a suspect from the word go, only upon further investigate and profiling is it reduced it wont be, and should not be any different here...yes, potentially wild acclamations on behalf of a lot of potential candidates, but not something that should be forgotten lightly.

A lot of underhand cards have been played by members of the community in this game, even now I could very easily say to you that you would defend that point because you are a member of FUALL, and banking on FS, for example getting in so you have the server politics threads in your pocket, FUALL mod watching over it, FUALL Ombudsman, Fuall Admin, its great propoganda in light of the whole community to be banning and warning a load of TTF or just having FUALL in the 'responsible positions'. I am NOT, NOT NOT... for one minute personally questioning your honesty lore...but I am trying to illustrate how it can look, so the possible weight of such a situation may actually be realised. I know if I were in your shoes it would be one of my pressing concerns regarding the Ombudsman topic.

Onto the matter of side kick. Well yes, thats another, fair suggestion..but then why not just have, two Ombudsman's or an Ombudsman council of three? Majority wins, they take it in turns for one to be the 0.1% chief every week in case there are just two present. Everyone has the ability to wait until all three are there. Also would rule out the potential of Bias if you have one from each of the super powers and a neutral one..much in the same way the admins are. It can be called... 'The Tribunal'.. you can get a special little sig an avatar and even a custom title.. it could be beautiful. lol...
