And you do what, exactly?

Most of the ten pages of this thread, posted over a three week period, have been the same group of people quibbling over the most minor and trivial of details. You may as well have been discussing font sizes for all the good it did you and all the progress you've made. Maybe if you give it another month or so you can actually start to talk about the game itself instead of cooking up endless rules and regulations for yourselves. Who knows.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, guys, but Jason doesn't listen. I'm glad you alluded to the fact I was a forum administrator, caesar2, because it gave me firsthand experience of dealing with him. Over the last five years, a huge amount of incredibly stupid decisions have been made with regard to forum policy. Remember the 'anonymous' moderators debacle? Remember moderators being awarded privileges? Remember Clarkey being shot up to administrator status when he wasn't even a mod at the time? Remember the decision, the first week I became an administrator, to sack the entire existing global mod team? Remember his insistence that Clarkey's access privileges to the mod forums be restored immediatly after he deleted a whole section of the forum and two users? I remember that last one especially well; because it's when I decided I'd had enough of him and resigned.

All of these disastrous decisions came from the man himself. It's not as though the various admin teams didn't give him sound advice, or point out the potential consequences of these policies, because they did; he just ignored them. Of course the forums and the game are seperate and different, but I think it's an indication of how our beloved commander in chief operates. I don't know how his mind works, to be honest. It's been suggested that he's too susceptible to the influence of individuals who get him one on one. Rumour has it that Universe convinced him to sack the GM team, and lord knows he's bent over backwards to give Clarkey a happy ending. I just don't know. All I know is that his actions are utterly devoid of either logic or reason.

I'm sorry for being so cynical, but this whole endeavour seems pointless to me. Right now it just looks like an excuse for some of you to be all like 'I LordSuchandSuch, ArchDruid of the CircleJerkAlliance, am honored to be a part of this council' then shake each other's metaphorical hands, add your names to a long but ultimately meaningless post, then mail it off to a despondent Jason and go to bed feeling good about yourselves.

Good luck, anyway. It'd be nice if I was wrong. Deep down I think the best way you could all 'save' the game would just be to get Qacol and a few more of the 'more money than sense' brigade to pool their resources together and make Jason an offer he can't refuse; maybe then your GC would actually have some teeth.

I didn't say it was rocket science, just that you don't know what goes on behind the scenes. :-$

and if that last part was meant as a vague threat, knock yourself out. I havent played the game for quite a while. ;)

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but, Jason does listen. I went to Jason personally via txt and private email to change his mind to sack the GMs. He was insistent and it was hard work for me to change his mind. In the end he changed his mind and he said to me that if it goes wrong then it was down to me because I had urged him to change his mind.

The decision to bump me up to admin wasn't a bad decision made by Jason, it just ended up being bad timing. I went through a very bad patch where my Uncle died, Nan seriously ill, troubles at work, and my own health troubles. I kept most of that out of the forums but the affect it all had on my own behaviour, well, that was evident right here. But it was bad timing rather than a bad decision by Jason. Whether you care to believe it is up to you.

Without seeing everything that goes on, without being in every conversation people have with Jason all you see is what happens and automatically assume Jason is at fault and has made a bad decision. People are quick to judge when they don't run a game like this themselves. I'm pretty sure a lot of you would fail much more than Jason ever has.

As for Jason bending over to give me a happy ending.... did I get a happy ending? No, I got bullied, I got kicked out of the ex-admin group. So no, I didn't exactly get a happy ending.

Actually, there have been some discussions already that might lead to some results - like updating the Help page etc. Not much, but a step forward nevertheless.

So please, do us a favour and let the ones who want to help do so, without having them to defend or justify their desire to help. You know, fretting about the problem does not help. Thinking of a solution does ;)

Exactly. Jason listens to one or two people at a time, rather than the collective will of the game itself or good old vulcan logic. Being pillow talked into a stupid decision by one person and then talked out of by another does not greatly alter the opinion I put forth in my first post.

Oddly enough, my belief that it was a bad decision is entirely unrelated to what eventually happened with you. I thought it was flawed because promoting someone to admin from nowhere completely disregarded, and possibly even undermined, the existing structure of the forum staff. Even from the onset, before you'd made a single wrong or right decision, a few people already resented you because of percieved favoritism and had their noses put out of join at being 'passed over' in favour of someone who wasn't even part of the team.

Well, the forum staff surprised even me and actually grew a spine that time. Whodathunkit?

At the end of the day, Clarkey, we probably represent the two polar extremes of this argument. I'm extremely bitter towards Jason, and I guess you're his friend. For the sake of the game, and for the sake of all the Little Lord Fauntroys on the Galactic Council, I hope the truth lies somewhere in the middle of what we've both said. Peace out.

Re: The GateWars GALACTIC COUNCIL

Impressive this endeavour.

For those 'negative' posts claiming the trivial-ness of the topics discussed which suposedly 'clutter' this thread .....

lolz ....

I just read all pages ... 40% + are reactions and discussions about people being negative to the whole Galactic Council concept.

Such foolishness.
Gatewars players should applaude and appreciate the trouble people are undertaking to make this work. Wheter or not it will work is irrelevant.

The pure fact that players are attempting it, working together, says a lot about the community.
The will is there .... its resolve .... needs support, not a 'jump on and post every negative aspect you can think off' behaviour.

So ... that was me being negative about them negatives :o

To add some positive:

Getting more new player:
* Referral rewards system for getting players to sign up (nice ones, use your imagination)

Power and strength differences (new/old):
* Use Military experience in the calc for stats powers and make sure people can get negative ME (meaning you can loose ME, thus having lower stats)
* Make it possible to loose your MS

Houses:
* Remove power bonusses and make them income and turn aquisition bonusses

Enough from me ... I'll go get my flame proof umbrella and hide in the corner.

Nostra
