The process is more rigorous than the one we used for the Awards.
Steps have been established to review any suspect votes prior to announcing the winner.
No system is perfect. However, we feel that this is the most transparent and open process available to us at this point in time.
Any learning we make during this election will be available for future implementation, as is the case with the recent Awards Program.
not at all..
several points..
1. The Ombudsman is a forum elect, not an ingame one...it should be based solely from FORUM accounts, not ingame ones.. you see where as they are linked, and ingame player who never uses the forum is not going to make use of the Ombudsman, whilst as there are people who use the forums that do not have an ingame account who might. Definitely not clear cut.
2. There is a big list of people who use the forum, and bigger list of those who do not. How much do you want to be that we can pop along ingame find a unregistered forum user, get one of the old multu's out change the forum name, or not even bother with that.... EXAMPLE, I found an account ingame.. Ortogon, ID 19204442. I have a forum multi account called Obvatius. I post Ortagons ID under the name Obvatius. Bingo Bango, one vote. I have a second multi, called.. FBA, Firebird Aces ingame, ID: 1912087. Are you going to message ALL the voters ingame?
You prove to me that every person that has voted has an ingame account to make the use of ID relevant, and everyone of those forum accounts is not a multi obviously as I stated this can be gotten around by messaging them ingame, then you explain to me why whether they have an ingame account or not it has any relevance on this election. I should have the entire of the Nemesis Quarter come ans sign up for the forums 20+ members, get them to find their friends.. 3-4mill army sizes, never used the forums before in their lives, but have an ingame account..would not have a clue what they were voting for, only that they should vote.
The Ombudsman has nothing to do with the game itself, it is a purely forum role. You need a post count limit. Its the only way to keep a vote like this reasonable..there will always be casualties but they are acceptable losses for the fairest possible outcome...even so at the end of the day these things are and always will be popularity contest's as Clarkey emphasised.
I also add, that by definition.. the Ombudsman is meant to be appointed by the governing body... IE, the Admins and the mods.
I still maintain this should be the top 3 are taken away and then the admins and mods decide. Its how it was done in the past, how it should be.

okey i'm going to be a real ass here...
voting should have been closed on 23.59.99 game time if i understand correctly.
that is 9am my time. that would mean 10am forum time
last vote within the timeframe then would have been:
J.S.
Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:53 am
so all votes behind that post should be concidered invalid if i am not mistaking (strickly keeping to the rules)
EDIT:
now the point that will make me look like an ass about this:
voting results if it only counts til feb 17 10.00am forum time:
Antz: 4
Dundee:16
~FreeSpirit~: 20
Highwayman: 3
Manetheren: 65
MEZZANINE: 1
myworld: 0
Nimras: 2
Semper: 7
Tetrismonkey: 2
Vortexal Assassin: 0
zeekomkommer: 67
till post of J.S. (page 13)
--> winner zeekomkommer
if votes go trough completely:
Antz: 4
Dundee:17
~FreeSpirit~: 20
Highwayman: 3
Manetheren: 74
MEZZANINE: 1
myworld: 0
Nimras: 2
Semper: 7
Tetrismonkey: 2
Vortexal Assassin: 0
zeekomkommer: 69
till post of zeratul (page 14)
--> winner manetheren

it was postponed somewhat for a reason...
there was a short timespan, about 4 1/2 hour, where topic was locked by a mistake...
we locked it almost exactly midnight gametime + that time...
oh, and winner is not certain yet... not certain that all votes are valid... that is being checked out, though...

Zeeky, the votes will be gone through thoroughly and I have no doubt many will be void for obvious reasons.
I also have no doubt that you will win.

no need to do that... if you hadnt done it, someone else would...
if we'd thought through everything, we'd have explained in lock post why it was locked then...

thats a good one lol.
You're going to be Ombudsman for heavens sake my friend.
What you said was a good point. So this either leads me to believe you are BSing us with the innocent act, or you're not fit for Ombudsman. Things like this are part of the gig, you have to do them and if you're going to feel like an ass every time you pull someone on something its going to be a very long and depressing job for you.

Either way Zeek good luck with it.

well i honestly like winning without having to refer to things like:
those series of votes are invalid. i just don't want to look like the one that tries to do everyting to get the positon.
specialy not after my talk with manetheren yesterday. he's a good guy and i woudn't mind losing to him fairly

Nobody should be counting their chickens yet. A few people thought they'd won in various awards categories, but were disappointed to discover that this wasn't the case once they'd been tallied officially. Everybody's best bet it to wait for the official announcement from the admin.

i bet 500b naq it won't be me...

I've received 4 votes, for this i am very pleased, out of those 4, i only actually mentioned the fact that i was running to one of them, that's three people who voted for me i didn't mention a thing about. Yes...i could have asked for alot more people to vote for me, everyone in AK could have voted for me, (and i didn't vote for myself)
but i didn't, because it's not how i would like to win, firstly, i thought i could do the job, that i could remain impartial and could keep my head. I have done so in the past. Yes, this was always going to be more of a popularity contest than a serious 'election' I knew that when i threw my hat into the ring.
For me, this was a victory, three people out there (two if you discount an ex-alliance mate) thought that i would be able to pull the job off. I find that an excellent sign for the future.
Proudly Accepting Defeat.

Nothing wrong with being ruthless. Most of the respected players in the game are exactly that... ruthless and do what they can to win.
