i think they sould be more menervable.
be able to send them to protect your allies, make a supermassive fleet of all the motherships in the allience in times of war, commanded by the leader of the allience.

ive just baught a m/s on Q its cool and i like the idea of defineing its strategic role say neutral 100%att/100%def agressive 120%att/80%deff defensive 80%att/120%deff with the same time constriants as changeing commanders
if you immeadiatly know that candlelight is fire then the meal was cooked a long time ago

Those of us who have ms can already attack those who don't...
Currently the att strength is simply added to your normal att strength...
What I'm suggesting is that we be able to send just our motherships into battle...
Which works out for the little guy because the att power would be diminished from that of an all out attack.
This is really most effective when applied as a war tactic, as your strength would be a fraction of normal, making naq steals less dramatic. The advantage is that it would provide a method of attack that is less risky in terms of units lost...

Perhaps, when doing such a mothership only attack, all damage that gets through an opposing mothership will be reduced by 50% power to represent a Motherships inability to reach certain targets.... With no motherships the 50% still aplies.... 100% is to devasting to someone who doesn't own one, this would also in some regards be less damaging to new mothership owners, 50% of 1,000,000 is not as much of a waste of the weapon improvements as 50% of 100,000,000..... And as proposed this should not take any naq....
Since I have already made this to long
Let me illustrate how this would work: A mothership with 10mil in attack decides to bash some new(er) player who doesn't have a M/s, AFTER the ranking modifier the attack is further reduced by 50%.....(not that mathmaticaly changes anything).... so say the ranking modifier is Attk X 10% (I have no idea), the attacker ends up doing 500K, final modifiers are then tacked on... This represents a smaller kingdom having more disspersed targets, and the fact that the peaple can take refuge in places nothing but ground support can reach.....
This also really nerfs such attacks against kingdoms with other motherships but this is RL explainable:
It is hard for a mothership to concentrate on the ground untill after it has delt with the opposing mothership, expending ammo and taking damage, in a normal attack of course, ground troops would be 'hitting' the beach as the over head war rages on.
50% is of course just a random percentage and may be way to much, also I doubt very much that the Rank modifier ever comes close to 10%....
Wayyyyy to long.

you should be able to buy MS def/off squadrons. uh, x302 for tauri, danieljackson MS for asgard, RepliSuperSpider for the reps, and Glider support wings for goauld.
for that matter it'd be nice to buy manouver points for the ms, that would allow it to avoid wepons fire/ get into better firing position. for that matter we should have a total MS capacity for a mothership type (and be able to upgrade the type) and we could pay to 'tune' the amount of off vs def vs flight vs range.
i'd also like to see mutiple mothership battles involving different stuff, with focus choosing attack targets. (example: have designated attack times for certain rankings (thus establishing a 'system location' type thing. people copuld choose the mothership attack on an enemy before the time. then when the time roles around, all the people that chose to attack there get an attack the the results arer based on the tactics chosen for the MS)
like say:
MS A: set to Fast, Precise, assasin
vs
MS B: set to Slow, Barrage, Def
vs
MS C: set to Medium, Targeting, variable.
MSA would attack with only enough force to get by the def to raid the planet, ignoring MSC, while MSB would lay down heavy fire while staying in one place, attacking everything in range. MSC would dodge some shots and attack both MS's with calculated targeting to cause moderate damage but not anything else, then at the end they would retreat.
or something like that.

this mothership strike/bombardment sounds like a really cool idea, i love it really useful some definately good points such as costing naq to do the attack otherwise itll be a mess with alliances blowing the hell out of each other lol.
Also the mothership attack/defence especially when used in this mode will have to respect rank difference
One thing i definetly want to see is that commanders are always saying they'll protect you but whats the point if ur under attack and the race who you have pledged too doesnt show up in their mothership in the nick of time to save your ass. I think this'll put a whole new tactical side to things you really have to worry about some guys commander now. Of course to stop this being abused clearly only the officer a commander sets to cornel (on the officers page) has the right for his mothership protection cant be everywhere at once, or maybe the motherships power depends on how many officers that commander has when backing all of them up.

I like the idea.
It'll change the way a massing is conducted for sure.
I think that if your going to have cloaking be the option for this type of attack you should have to purchase the cloaking generators as well though.
And this may be a bit off topic but I also think that you should be able to sell off your weapons on your mothership just like you can the other weapons you buy. I mean they are bought and installed, you should be able to dismantle and sell them.
Not sure what some of you mean by the motherships being "unbalanced" though.
The shields on them are stronger than the strike weapons but that's all I see.
I do think that the motherships should be more race specific though.
Goa'uld and Replicator stay like their normal weapons, more balanced between strike and defense.
Tauri get Prometheus or Daedalus class ships with an enhanced strike.
And Asgard get the Jack O'Neill motherships that you buy in the upgrades that are stronger on defense.
I also think that you shouldn't have the option to buy a mothership until you have the technology upgrades that say you have it.

We don't mean Cloaking as an ability...
It is simply that from a Roleplaying perspective, using only your mothership would allow for a stealthier attack, and therefore you would be able to deal more damage.
It's a way to explain how this would give your MS attack a bonus...
