From what I gather there is a whole lot more to Ascension than just "Main with Motherships and Assassins". If that was really it then I don't think people would praise Ascension as they do. And don't forget, Ascension is not finished - Forum can always add updates if something cool comes to him.
I just think that Main could use a powerful new tool to encourage offense.

That's obvious though isn't it? Players have to advance in order to be able to use the better toys. You cannot buy super weapons as soon as you register, and rightly so. The more powerful technologies, weapons and troops should be earned by a player actually playing the game. These things take time, and I refuse to accept that it is impossible for someone to advance into the top 100 on this game - it might take some time and effort, but then so it should! If it were easily achieved then what would be the point?
Assassins would be no different to Super Soldiers really (or would you suggest getting rid of Super Soldiers since not everyone can afford to have ten thousand of them?), and with the proposed safeguards that aussie babsy picked out they would hardly terrorise weaker players. Besides, why exactly would somoene waste a few hundred expensive Assassins killing a few hundred units belongin to someone ranked 7,000? What's to eb gained? Certainly not a farm.
