barry zito had that 1 good yr. and it made him overrated. hudson and mulder are good pitchers. athletics got a few younger good players with houston street.

The A's wont ever be able to keep up with Boston and New York if they continue to be so cheap. It doesn't matter who they let go, or who they have in their farm system if they are going to continue to act like a supermarket for quality players.

ya i can agree with that. the phillies sold out some of their prospects for brad lidge. phillies went out buying pedro feliz and geoff jenkins. the yankees and cubs have bought their teams. to win you have to use money. i dont see y teams are expecting to win by homegrowing their players. it never works in the long run.

Funny thing is, my brother and I thought of something yesterday. Whenever the A's trade a pitcher, it's always at his peak, and always to a NL team. So, they might get another two good years, but it's on a team which is far less of a threat than an AL team. This year must be a rebuilding year, as Harden got traded also.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure the A's spending is matched by their income. I don't think we have the big $$$ to drop on players like the Yankees, so meh...

I would say the Brewers have got to be a top contender. With pitchers like Parra, Sabathia, and Sheets, all they have to do is make the playoffs to have a shot (Gallardo may be back in September also). They got some good bats in their line up: Braun, Hardy, Hart, Fielder, and just acquired Durham. The defense isn't the greatest and possibly a closer would help. I think a left handed closer will be signed very soon.

Indeed... And on the subject of AL Central, Twins shall be overtaking the White Sox shortly, and the Tigers are pretty much dead (KC and Indians are both negligible)
