I've known a few people in the game well enough to discuss life outside of SGW and have nearly always been impressed by many of the jobs they do in real life. Even for those folks playing SGW who are college age, many are in education paths that are interesting and diverse. I think it's easy to forget that behind the pseudonym is a real person with a life, goals, hobbies, and interests.

I love teh internetz.

It funny to me to sit with my Grandsons around me asking me "Why you like that game so much paw-paw. Its boring looking".

I guess I'm alot like the "people watchers" at the malls. I mainly just come here to see the people. Its truely intresting to see what goes on here, when you take away the hate and bitterness.

Well said Lore my old buddy. Great comment on the thread. I to love to see how people deal with the problems they are given in and out of game. I spoke to someone from the game today, who hasnt played for months now, about his Exams coming up and how he hopes to get into Acting. It really made me happy to know he was going somewhere and getting something from his life. Its nice to see what people do and how they do it.

The thing I love about the game is that people are passionate with ideas and opinions to share. There is the issue of stubbornness but excluding that, it promotes the exchange of ideas.

You encounter people from all ages, from all levels of maturity and from all different cultures and socio-economic or political standings you normally wouldn’t know. It is immersing yourself in that and opening your eyes (or having them opened) and seeing things in a way you never had before.

I myself have learnt quite a few things about life through my own mistakes or through interactions with others, but I’ll leave you with a conclusion that if people looked into, would make this community a better place.

It takes Pride to stand up for yourself and Loyalty to stand up for others. But it takes true courage to stand up to yourself.

That's the funny thing about the internet and RPGs... it's got nothing to do with real life. You may see powerful players and admire then in game and then it turns out they are absolute losers in real life. No education, some kind of monkey job or even unemployed. And then there are these rare moments when you meet someone real smart without ever expecting it.Always great for a surprise.

My opinion on who could do my job in the marines, (Intelligence) differs from most.

Being intelligent isn't the major factor, at least in my view. It helps, but Being able to think outside the box, and come up with new solutions is what counts the most.

I have honestly always blamed my sci-fi/fantasy reading habit, and my video game habit for excelling at intelligence. Never doubt yourself, if you want it, go for it. Talk to me over msn if you want to know what you are cut out for in the military, i'll give you impartial advice.

I dont think I have ever really had any sort of moments like some mentioned here, and TBH as nice a thread this is it feels a bit sappy for me :-D

I guess closest I can say for me is some people I guess like Judo, who act one way in general conversation etc, but can really surprise you with just how smart they are when it calls for it.

I quite enjoy psychology and people, and I tend to be quite good at reading people, and this game is definitely good for that, and also for exposing the different sides of people and what their like in various situations. Like Deity is much meaner in real life  <3 :P

And as good as i think I may be at reading people, I dont have a clue what anyone here truly thinks of me  In fact, i don't even think I know what i think of me

Hmm well i play this game mostly for the fun of improving my Roleplay as i never really had the nerve to try it IRL, and my passion was always else where. But now it seems i mainly stay for the same reasons Lore said.

The friends you get i have ingame friends i know absolutely nothing about their RL even people i hate the guts off here ingame.

But then there are those rare few i call RL friends i talk to about RL get to know have fun with which makes this game worth playing.

For that moment of AWW sry never had one but i know one thing some of the people here even when they roleplay show they have a quit few good braincells and arent stupid it struck sometimes that when you found out how old some are its a funny thing that not always the age you think they are is what they are.

But one thing is sure is this:

Be to others as you want them to be towards you.

There is no such things as stupid questions only stupid answers.

Noobs are in many cases the smartest people as they always try to improve and learn.

Your never to old to learn new stuff and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

A few good quotes worth thinking about.

This thread by itself is a moment of realization for all of us playing the game. Whereas before, we played the game without wondering about the personal motivation behind each account, now, our eyes are opened and it expands our world view of the community not only in SGW, but in other online communities as well.

It does make you think about the life you are leading and the way others are leading their life. One wonders why people with so much potential play the game.

Though far from brilliant, I personally like playing this game. If I knew of its existence three years ago, I would have joined sooner. Fact is, whether you are an excellent soldier, a well-meaning scientist or a plain old bum, you need a place to live a totally different life in order to relieve monotony and boredom.

So yes, people may be brilliant, but they still need some form of entertainment. The SGW forums provides one avenue of rediscovering different people and different worlds. What better place to spend your leisure time?

Bite your tongue!

And to echo the sentiments of some of the previous posters, well done BW. We can always count on you to put-forth a poignant topic.

On my end there have been a few "Wow...."s but they have mostly revolved around people's ages and my faulty assumptions about them. A few about gender as well. Whether that is on account of sexism or the person-in-question's way of portraying themselves is up for debate.

There have also been those who "Wow..." with intelligence. One who I have recently gotten to know in TGR and a young lad Robe introduced me to a while back both make me feel insecure about my knowledge of computers.

But as Einstein said, everything is relative. One man's Ancient Egyptian Algebra might be another's long division but it's hard to top the cure for cancer.

Here's hoping there a few AIDS researchers or a young kid with an idea to cure the world hunger crisis lurking somewhere in those thousands of SGW accounts.

Or perhaps not... Quit the game, get to work. :)

basicaly what keeps me in this game are the ppl, the ones i met, and the ones i keep meeting

i always liked to know and talk to different ppl, from different backgrounds, different cultures and believes, its a way to get to know the world a little better
and its funny how many things are similar in countries so different and so apart from each other

and yes, i have met very smart ppl here, very dumb ppl too, a lot of friendly and nice ppl, and others angry with something :? but that happens in every comunity you join

to sum up, for what i can tell from this comunity we have, yes we have amazing ppl here, and the rest have great potential to acomplish amazing things too, that is why i cant get enough of this game and i keep coming back to it ;)

For me the fun in sgw keeps comming from the friends you get to know here. The enemies that will give you a good time. The politics that enables you to debate them a lot. The work you can do for newer players of the game. I can say i met a lot of great people in SGW each with their own pro's and cons and am glad i know people who can be such a great enemy ingame that you woudnt mind fighting em all day long.

i play this game, cause at the end of a bad day, when all is said and done, i can mass some one, and i don't kick the cat. lol

really thou, i am amazed some times at the cultural and age differences that are bridge here. i have at points had some people come at me for playing at my age (50 in aug) but, for me, i feel contect to a generation that i am removed from, and get a world view different than my own. lots and lots of fine young people playing, weather they be in role play or just running there accounts. I believe life lessons are being learned here, in that u learn how to communicate in writing, an art lost to other 20th century generations. I found it funny once that a player asked me if i was euro from the way i used spoke on my msn, and i relized that in a way i was learning a new way of communicating for a new age, that change the way i spoke with in my own culture.
