Oh i definitely agree that an actual reason to ascend needs to exist.

with that in mind I would like to submit this as an idea to fix some problems "I" think are in the game...
Races that have ascended past Ancient God (AG) are no better that the same account that has only ascended TO ancient god. As you ascend up to this point at first you get +5% to all stats then +1% after that. yet after this level no more increases happen, YET, you are now paying far more (80k or more UP) for no benefits (except for ascended account and the APP you get are, in my opinion, a bit of a joke!)
So, why is it so hard to raise stats? That is easy, as they get higher they are harder to get bigger and you are trying to keep ALL your stats growing. So most people get to a certain level then specialize.
My proposal is as such
for EACH level past AG you get 1 point to be allocated to a new(old) tech. Techs "slots" can then be bought using these points and then, in the tech area, the new tech has to be paid for in the tech area.
The technologies are
holographic tech (same as Asgard)
Rapid Evacuation (same as Tauri)
Unit Regeneration SubRoutine (same as Replicator)
Host Processing Facility (same as Goa'uld)
Advanced mothership design (improved % to motherships and ALL fighters. that includes planet based ones)
Improved mining techniques (more money...)
Advanced intelligence gathering (better spies and maybe anti-spies, not sure here but I guess they go together)
Attack tech?
Defence Tech? (need names for these too)
I am sure you can think of others.
So what do I mean with this "SLOTS"?
to get 5% extra in your chosen area costs 1 point
10% costs 2 points (for a total of 3 points)
15% cots 3 points (for a total of 6 points)
25% costs 4 points (for a TOTAL of 10, yes 10, points)
However ALL races would get -1 point of the cost to buy some techs
so ancient would be able to, say, re-buy holographic tech and get 10% for 1 point and 6 points for 25% (0+1+2+3) (and you would be forced to buy the 10% one for the 1 point)
system lord get Host Processing Facility at 10% for 1 point etc.
As for the others they "could" be tied to the race you picked to ascend to,
say ori for advanced intelligence gathering
ajna get improved mining techniques
tolah get advanced mothership design or % increase to attack power????? (but only one)
indu get some sort of increase to defense tech????
or not at all (having 2 areas at -1 could make things too cheep???)
So what does the 5% do for you?
Obviously the 4 base race techs would work the same as before BUT can now get to 25% (I can see the system lords rubbing their hands together now over the new UU they can get )
the others are just multipliers to the strength of the thing in question SO for example the mothership one multiplies the attack and defense power of all things so 1.05 to 1.25 times the power of all mothership stuff and planet fighter defenses; same with spies and mining techniques (these would add on to the current bonuses)
what about Daimon I hear you ask?
well with the above system in place they can be "given" a bonus as though they where 3 levels higher than they are now(or only 2 levels or even 4?), So a prior would be like a incarnate for attack, defense power income etc. BUT no ascended blessing
prophet would be like a living god etc. and after AG they get 3 extra points to allocate (BUT they must be AG or higher to get this bonus or they get no points from this.)
Also this does not give you the tech in question all it does is allow you to then BUY the tech on the tech page. price is still to be worked out
