Read this, it's from Gateworld...
Casting calls have gone out for the third series' main characters, and today the short character break-downs arrived at GateWorld.

Note that while this information doesn't come from our usual source of casting sides, it does come from a source with a proven track record. But until we have more solid confirmation, it should be considered rumor.

As anticipated, the team is led by an older veteran officer, Colonel Everett Young. Young is described as "like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time." The show's producers are looking to cast an established, "name" actor in this role.

The rest of the cast of characters is made up of young men and women, mostly in their early to mid twenties. (Keep in mind that when Stargate SG-1 began in 1997, Michael Shanks was also in his twenties.)

Also, remember that these character names and details are subject to change as the roles are cast. (Did you not ever meet Dr. Benjamin Ingram on Stargate Atlantis? That's because he was changed to Rodney McKay when David Hewlett auditioned.)

Stargate Universe will begin shooting February 4 for a summer 2009 premiere on the SCI FI Channel. Learn more about the new series in GateWorld's Stargate Universe Launch Center, and also visit our friends at SpoilerTV for more on the show!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colonel Everett Young
40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he's temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon
20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn't afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter
20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father's footsteps but for now she's a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock
20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in sptv050769. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash
20-25. Junior S.G.C. team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl's fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak
20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don't want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he'd kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR.
Everyone on Gateworld for the most part has stated this is a piece of **Filtered**. It's a afternoon soap opera for crying out loud!!!

Kiss Stargate goodbye, cause TPTB has decided to kill it in the worst way possible.

Well we still need to give it a chance. While the next generation of Stargate fans (gaters) have Stargate Universe while we will still have the Stargate Sg-1 and Atlantis movies, oh and for you readers Stargate Horizon. So yeah, give SGU a chance and who knows it might become the next best Stargate out there it might take a while thou.

I remember talking to a few people online when GateWorld first announced Stargate Universe - and I remember saying that it sounded like a rip off of Star Trek: Voyager. Honestly, the premise is exactly the same!

It seems to me that somebody just came up with an idea for a new show (although not a new idea - i.e. Voyager!) and they wondered how they were going to market it - so somebody else came up with the idea of simply slapping the Stargate name on it.

Even the name sucks.

As long as they have a SG version of "7 of 9" then it will be worth watching.

Indeed! - or even a female Captain like Janeway - or maybe that's just me and authoritative female figures in uniform!? :-D

I wish they'd just not produce SGU if this is what it's gonna be, a soap opera. I don't care if they have sanitly-clad women in it all the time, I watch SG for the action & all the cool CGI it has.

I hear that...

We need a good Sci-fi WAR series...

screw this pansy "political" garbage...I've had decades of Star Trek...over a decade of Stargate...and even Battlestar turned out to be sex, politics, sex, robot sex, robot politics, robot religiously politcal sex...etc...

Dr. Who at least doesn't concern itself with politics...

But oh...wait...IT'S OFF THE FREAKING AIR!!!

grr....

I want a good ole fashioned war...

No peace...

No diplomacy...

Combat...

new show premise:

Stargate: Hellion Squad

Setting: Milky Way Galaxy/Pegasus Galaxy, 150 years hence...

After defeating the major threats to the races of the Milky Way and Pegasus...humanity has had 150 years of prosperity and growth...colonies on multiple worlds have sprung up, and the atrocities of the Goa'uld and Ori are naught but lessons in textbooks...

But they are far from dead...a new Goa'uld has risen, more powerful than any foe faced before...humanity is caught at unawares, and is viciously slammed on multiple fronts in two galaxies...

Earth, and Lantea are our last bastions...our fleet nearly gone...our options nearly out...we are forced to compromise...a military government...a new strategy...

The F-704 Hellion is introduced...named for the squadron assigned to the first fighters produced...

This is their story...

SG:HS focuses not on the grand schemes for defeating this new Goa'uld threat...but on the squadron fighting the frontline war against it...they are not "heroes" by the standard sense...but they fight all the same...

Hellion squad is a commando/fighter pilot strike team using new aircraft based on reverse engineered ancient/wraith tech...

They hit hard...they hit fast...on the ground and in the air...filming focuses on combat, action speaking louder than dialogue ever could...it will portray the dirt and reality of war against an obviously superior foe...

Who knows...maybe they could go out of the box for a sci-fi...maybe after a few seasons...humanity is conquered...and the show switches focus to an insurgency...led by none other...than Hellion Squadron...

Now see...it's not that hard to come up with shows... 8)

True -^

I knew this wasn't going to be an epic show, I know some kept faith, but now we have to be logical...it's not going to be as good as SG1 or SGA were. Just a rip-off, that will be.
Describing of all characters is OH SO unoriginal...wow, most of them are uninteresting!

Anyone who thinks SGU will not be bad, could you explain what does this serie will have better than SG1/SGA?
Taking into mind describing of characters, is nowhere near, in good factors, to SG1 SGA's ones.
I'm curious to know. I wish it was a good serie, so don't refrain yourself from posting anything good in your opinion!

Aside from the premise being slightly simmilar to a Certain Star Trek series.
I see nothing wrong with it, really.

Its gonna have the same action, and humor, and sweet CGI.
