So far these threads have just sat in general until they fall to the bottom of the first page, and are then forgotten.
I think they deserve their own forum, their own resting place where they will always be highlighted and remembered.
This would also make it easier to see these threads when they come about. We would know where to look straight away, and not have to search through the general section to find out what's happened by sheer accident.

Agree 100%, a nice thought there Nuto

I don't think it's that much trouble to create a place for all the "RIP" threads to go. It's almost sick that they have to live amongst the flaming and childish antics that general is now slumped with.
There is a RIP thread in general right now thats getting shoved aside for a silly online war game thread? You really need to put life into perspective if you think that those threads belong in the same forum together.
Wolf, no idea what your problem is with respecting the dead who loved and cherishedthis game, but I personally think that they at least deserve a special part of this forum which doesn't link in with flaming and the high level of immaturity displayed in most other places.
It's not difficult to make another forum, nor would anyone even need to mod it.
I tend to think that life goes on also, but I still miss, love and think about everyone I have ever lost in my life. I still mourn. I still cry for them. I still visit graves of my lost friends and family. Why should we have to forget these players. Some of which were like family to other players.
I am shocked to even see anyone disagreeing with this idea.
Makes you wonder what the world is coming to when you can just disconnect from the sadness and tragedy of death like that.
Show some respect please.
I'm gad to see its just 2 people though.
Make that three, and I'd prefer it if you didn't support your argument by attempting to vilify the people that disagree with you. Opposing your proposal on the grounds of necessity or forum aesthetics does not denote a 'lack of respect' for the dead.
I much prefer the idea of a sticky topic containing the names of deceased players. A thread like that in general would be a much more pertinent and significant memorial to deceased players than the addition of yet another sub-forum which 99% of everybody will just ignore.

Ignore their dead friends memorial threads? Yeah... I bet EVERYONE will be doing that.
I'm happy to vilify those who are deserving of it, including you, who doesn't seem to grasp the concept of a Memorial thread at all.
Seems like yourself and the other person who was against the idea are both claiming that it would just make things a little less "aesthetically pleasing". Honestly, your argument is an insult to those players who have passed and deserve better. If you yourself couldn't care less about the players in this game who have passes away, then simply don't look in the thread. It's as simple as that really.
I do agree with one thing you said though. A stickied post containing all the names of the players who have passed away would be a lovely living gesture to their friends and family.

I suggested this some time ago. Though i did not put it as poetically as you did.
(which for those who cannot read between the lines, means I also agree..)
There were no lines to read between before you added the explanation!

Many of us have been deeply touched by the sad loss of other players.
A respectful Memorial post would provide an opportunity for us to acknowledge our friendships.

Apoligies for the lateness of my reply, I only just saw the thread, i feel i have a few things worth saying.
I feel that nuto, Your getting the wrong end of the stick, People arent suggesting they dont like the desceased, or do not respect them, Afterall, they are all human Beings, however, what they are saying, is that they dont believe its nesscescary. Or however nescesary is spelt. Either way thats what they believe, Your attitude towards them is a little intollerant, I feel, Espsecially when your talking about threads that should be made to respect the desceased.
That Aside, when im next on Msn with lore and robe i will disscuss the idea with them further, I feel it merits this, I dont see how you can seperate sections of the forum into "Luxurys" I mean seriously, its a load of text, On different topics, thats the very nature of a forum. I agree with the idea, I feel there is nothing wrong with it, And i HIGHLY doubt any of the threads would even need modding, We have some pretty low life characters on these forums, but I doubt they would slight someone in a memorial thread. It wouldnt take alot of work, And could Perhaps be added to, the archives section? Its not much, But its a compromise. And i feel its the kind of place it belongs, Archived.

I'd forgotten all about this. Nuto - I like you - but you jump to conclusions and start arguing the toss against everyone who seems to disagree with you - sometimes simply because they disagree with you, and not because of what they've said.
Now, let's analyse the 3 important parts of what I said shall we?
Wolf359 wrote:Have to agree with Zeratul somewhat and play the devil's advocate role. Although it is tragic that some of our community may pass away before their time - do we need to turn part of a gaming forum into a memorial? In, short - I don't believe we do - sorry if that seems blunt and harsh, but it's true, and there's no easy way to say it. We do not need a memorial section that highlight and draws attention to any memorial threads, nor does it happen regularly enough to warrant it's own board - and as Zera points out, the forum is already cluttered to a degree.
It is sufficient to do as we do now, with a single memorial thread if and when someone finds out about a death.
Nuto said that these threads fall off the bottom of general and are forgotten; to be blunt, again, life moves on and that is what happens - we do not need to be creating memorial shrines.
1 - 'Play the devil's advocate role' - you'll notice I said that in my first sentence - this means I am pushing the other side of the debate. It doesn't matter whether I agree with you or not, or whether I actually agree with what I am saying - think of it like a prosecutor or defence lawyer in a court - they might not want to prosecute or defend the defendant - but it is their job to do so.
2 - 'It is sufficient to do as we do now, with a single memorial thread if and when someone finds out about a death.' - What exactly is wrong about this? Nothing as far as I can tell.
3 - 'Nuto said that these threads fall off the bottom of general and are forgotten; to be blunt, again, life moves on and that is what happens - we do not need to be creating memorial shrines.' - I stand by that - if we continue as we do now, then people can create a thread if and when they hear about a player passing away. Others can then post, commenting on any good memories, grieve, reminisce - whatever. And the thread will remain active for as long as it takes for people to let go - and personally I have no problem how long it takes. As time goes by, and people have said their piece, it will drop off naturally. The people will still be remembered, by those who had most to do with them - and if you really had good memories of the person, you would not need a text memorial of that person.
I'm really not bothered about what happens with this, I just don't think it's absolutely necessary and I believe the reasons why have already been outlined. What does really gripe at me is comments such as:
Nuto vixen wrote:Wolf, no idea what your problem is with respecting the dead who loved and cherishedthis game
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about here - and I resent such comments. I've served my country for the past 11 years - and in that time I've had 6 friends/comrades die - 2 of them right in front of me. Back in May, whilst deployed, I thought I was going to die myself.
So don't talk to me about respecting the dead when I've had friends and comrades who died doing the job they loved, protecting a world that barely gives a crap! Perhaps if people gave as much thought for their military personnel as they do players on a text based game, the world might be a better place. Hmmm?

Am against the idea
Am however for the idea of creating the SGW comeetee that will be runing things around here like they are suposed to be runed
This is about the game, not about family of players, not about financial crisis, not about personal problems of players and not about them in their personal life...
If I die I wished to be honoured as a player not cause I am dead

Nevermind,
At the moment, there will probably only be a brief thread about what happened, then it will float down into oblivion and be forgotten about.
Such comments are neither warranted, nor allowed.

We are each entitled to our own opinion on the matter as far the matter goes I ll do my best to leave a mark in this game not for the sake of being remembered but for the sake of fun and ppl playing this game.
Thats how I always worked and will resume to work
About the thread, I think its a noble cause howerever do think its a step in the wrong way...

A sticky should be made somewhere, either announcements or general, with a list of friends and members of this community who have died, and a link to their respective remembrance threads. Its non-intrusive to the general layout of the forum, and people will be able to see it easily.
Rob was recently killed on active duty, and I think its a shame that people wouldn't even know if they didn't visit the forum for the week it was near the top of the general forum. For a community which uses the buzz words of respect and honour, we should show more to our fallen friends.

How on earth could respecting and remembering the dead EVER be a step in the wrong way...
Correction... I simply don't care about the opinions of those who would stand in the way of such a self-less gesture.
I'm pretty sure this topic can be locked now that it's had its cross of disapproval.
Respect really is lost.
