Its called CENSORING clarkey, Masking would using an 'a' instead of a 'u'

learn english and stop being a mod

You simply used a * instead of a letter. Replacing the U with a * isn't that much different than replacing it with an A. Infact the A would probably have been the better one to use.

If you had replace the whole word with **** then you might have a point but you didn't so you don't.

Masking is the use of replacement or additional characters inserted into a word so that the word cersors will not censor the word.

See section 5b of the forum rules.

The warning was perfectly valid. I will leave it up to the more senior mods to decide if reposting this deserves additional warnings.

Woohoo a thread dedicated to ME. 8)

There was no need for you to even use a swear word, the person you were responding to did not deserve to be sworn at. However you see it you masked the word so that the filter would not pick it up.

Next time you send me a PM in response to my Board Warning and threaten me by saying you'll make a general post about it unless I explain my reasoning for issuing you with a warning, please give me the opportunity to respond to you, otherwise you just make your own threat void.

Now to deal with this officer rubbish.
Do I care that you joined me as an officer and then left to join your friend.... no i don't.

I never mix business with pleasure, i.e. I don't mix Modding with ingame. Everything I do on the forums in blue is me as a MOD and a MOD alone. Everything I do ingame is me as MYSELF.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

LOL! Quit your complaining, your acting like a 5 year old.

Rules are there for a reason and it is clarkey's job along with the other mod's to enforce these rules. If you don't want to follow them or can't then dont bother posting. It is as simple as that, there is no need for that language anyway so why you use it who knows.

Thanks to compmage on the explanation of what is considered masking in this forum (isn't that considered masking anywhere?).

In this case, the post broke the rules and the warning was justified.

End of story.

So let me get this straight, after being warned by Clarkey for breaching a forum rule, instead of get clarification from him or any other mod, or his bosses, or Bill, You come and make a post breaching the same rule over and over and over?

viewtopic.php?f=71&t=101808

5. Language
a. > English.
b. > Profanity.
c. > Abuse / Racism.
d. > Pornographic and criminal content.
e. > Stat posting.

Section 5: Language

b. Profanity
The use of profanity on the SGW forums is prohibited at all times. This means swearing, cursing and vulgarity. This includes the use of masking. SGW is a family orientated game and as such the language used must be suitable for children.

Consequence:
The offending user will be given one warning point.

So as it stands Clarkey was 100% justified in giving you a warning.

Now as a note to this case, it seems that the root problem is I don't think you understand the difference between cencership and masking. Maybe this is a more wide spread problem then ever before realized. I will take steps to more clearly define what masking is in the standing rule set to make sure this never happens again.

**Note to Bill**
When you have reveiwed this and made your decision please contact me. The only reason I am not giving him his 3rd warning and subsiquent bann is that I want this handled first, the decisions made, and I want him to be able to speak on his behalf. Being warned and then intentionally breaking the same rule repeatedly is just not acceptable.

hmm... a question along the same line then, putting all letters but one

e.g. f***

is that against the rules?

we would define that as wrong as well...

however, if you for example use "what a fish" it should be ok... it might be insulting, but it is not masking, since "fish" is a word...

the word defined as the "F" word, (the one in question in this thread), is not allowed on these forums in any way, thus it is warnable...

You obviously don't understand how the position of ombudsman works then! And it doesn't exist to overrule the mods or the rules, but to ensure the mods are abiding by the rules, handle complaints and to mediate bewtween disputes. In this case, the mod in question has abided by the rules.

Moreover - the author of this topic didn't post the topic in here (he posted it in General) - and it was actually a mod who moved it here!

Warning completly valid, 'masking' breaks our forum guidelines thus any mod on these forums would or at least SHOULD have warned you for that.

viewtopic.php?f=71&t=101808

I suggest you read section 5-b. Use profanity on your own time.

b. Profanity
The use of profanity on the SGW forums is prohibited at all times. This means swearing, cursing and vulgarity. This includes the use of masking. SGW is a family orientated game and as such the language used must be suitable for children.

N.B. As Factorizer signatures often display such content the use of them is forbidden on the SGW forums. However, static versions of the signature, that are clean of prohibited material are still allowed, though users take full responsibility for their content.

Consequence:
The offending user will be given one warning point.
