Very interesting.. i wont write much into this because I am tired as hell and cant remember half the points since finishing... so ill just say that sure its possible that other races exist far far away... many possibilities and only long periods of time will tell aye.

If an advance race had visited earth:

(a) they may have had limited time to stop (especially if they had met other beings more advanced than us

(b) they may have left behind simple things eg early settler in the US gave trinkets to indiginous peoples maybe in the belief that they would be unable to make use of more advanced technology

i have considered that and i would hope that is true, but i recently heard that the scientific community has declared (cant remember exact figure) about 90% of our DNA as junk

Not quite, the going theory is that much of our DNA is redundant, however it is far from being junk, without that 90% of not vital code, any genetic mutation would damage vital protein structures, in effect the 'useless' sections of our DNA are believed to be part of evolution, enabling mutations to be added to an organism without making it inviable, and also as a protective measure, to prevent DNA degradation.

i'm no engineer but i think it laughable that 1, we could create a thrust motor capable of reaching such speeds and 2, that a ship with such a powerful motor would stay in 1 piece, even if the speed was increased VERY slowly.
however, someone once asked me which is faster, light or gravity, not knowing about science i was perplexed till said friend asked me which would go 1st if the sun up an vanished instantly, the light from the sun or the gravity, well we all know that light from the sun takes about 8 mins to reach us, but the gravity of the sun would go instantly

Actually, most of our space-tech can survive quite severe acceleration, simply because they're built on Earth with a constant 8.1 ms-2 to contend with. At just one g of acceleration a space craft could feasibly accelerate up to relativistic speeds within a year, at that point time dilation effectively 'fast forwards' the trip, that is, until you have to slow down again. As for your friend however, I'm afraid it would take eight minutes for gravity to vanish, just like light, it's one of the underlying principles of causality that nothing travels faster than light within this space-time, not even gravity.

again very true, but the Baghdad battery may have been a scaled down version of a much lager battery producing much higher voltage (still not very efficient) or a forerunner of some as yet undiscovered tech, just like someone in a few thousand years (degradation allowing) might find a Duracell and not know we had nuclear fusion.

Really? I think they would recognize our level of technology from a duracell, or at least part of it, the alloys in a duracell battery can only come about as a result of advanced chemical knowledge, the design is based of complex electrochemical theories, and overall it would clearly be made by an automated industrial process, however the Baghdad battery shows none of those things. It is the sort of thing that comes about by chance, it's a pot that was probably used for any number of things which once inadvertently produced a mild electric current, to jump from that to suggesting a full scale knowledge of electricity is very difficult.

looking at the baghdad battery it doesnt look like it could work. maybe there are other versions that would have worked but thats unlikely in my view. if they discovered how to make the battery it would have been chance. if they found out by chance how to make one why would the baghdad battery not work?

also, then theres the fundamental problem with studying ancient history. we can find an artifact and figure out how it might have done something or worked. this is simply how we imagine it could have functioned, it doesnt represent the way it actually did.

im sure we can look at many things from our past and speculate on what they were capable of, and be quite wrong in our conclusions. much of what experts propose is coloured and influenced by our modern scientific knowledge.

however, as for the baghdad battery, would a future civilization still think we had advanced knowledge if they found one of our battery's from the 20's or 30's instead of a duracell?

i've recorded a documentary about ancient flying craft which a German has reproduced and found them to be aerodynamic and capable of flight, indeed, he's made models which do fly.

haven't seen the doc yet so will watch and report the findings

my thoughts are these...either the ancients had tech and knowledge that's long been lost, they gained knowledge from a far older civilization, "Atlantians" if you will, or we have been visited by "teachers".
only those 3 explanations fit the above mysteries and indeed the many other mysteries. i think the overwhelming evidence from all over the world warrants those 3 explanations being given SERIOUS thought by any rational thinking person.

how else can they be explained?
