A Tragic week for all Australians.
My heart goes out to the families and friends of those who died in our worst bush fires on record.
Our Firefighters are working hard to try get everything under control.
NSW is also hot and had fires, thankfully no loss of life like in Victoria.
We need to some cool weather and rain.
Edit
Sadly we did have one young child die in the NSW fires

i b ere... although, the closest fires were about 1hrs drive from our place, in camperdown.
not the serious ones, but still houses lost and stuff...
The main bad fires are central vic around the gipsland area and a couple in the snowy mountains. death toll is now at a 180 confirmed, entire towns burnt to the ground and estimates of deaths well into 200s...
and yes, as Tekki said, top of Aus is getting record rainfall, with amounts of above 400mm with a single day - repeated days in a row, where as bottom end of vic is in a record dry, with so far 2 days in febuary alone that have broken 50'c at our place, tipping the scale at 54'c.
wheres the happy medium

wow Teesdale. 54 degrees. I know us Aussies love a world record but that is frighteningly close to the highest ever at 58 degrees in the Sahara.
How does that poem go? 'Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me'?
I chucked in a donation today at work. It's so friggin sad whats happening down there in Victoria.

Cripes, I didn’t realise it was –that- hot there Teesdale!
For me the closest fires are um... I’m not sure. I work in the Yarra Valley so there are quite a few around. The Healesville fires flared this morning so there are urgent messages for everyone to evacuate or do what they are going to do. Thankfully those fires are heading away from my work place and as my work place is an Incident Control Centre for DSE and the CFA it’s a safe building.
For those interested -
http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/incidents/ima ... _21449.pdf is the current CFA map of where fires are and their status.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7878106.stm That BBC article shows where some of the fires have been.
I’ve been looking for maps that show where has been burnt but I don’t have the necessary flash players at work to view them or the computer privileges to install. LOL work likes keeping us on a tight rein.
The weather has been milder this week but is rising again next week so all we can say is that the current fires are not out, and unfortunately the death and property toll will most likely rise, though we can pray otherwise.

Hey everyone, i'm from sydney so i haven't been affected by these most recent fires but theres always a possibility that we might get some fires up this way this year... with the record temp's above mentioned!
I just can't believe that there are ppl out there lighting these fires! i've got some colourful words to describe these sicko's but no point, it'd get censored!
My thoughts are with everyone that has been affected, so many houses and lives lost...
Theres been an unbelievable public out pouring of support and donations which is awesome!
hopefully we never see anything like this again!

Hey, not a player any more, but just thought I'd let people know I'm ok.
My state is very charred. I am one of the lucky one's who hasn't lost anything or anyone I know.
I have family who lost 2 farms, 2 house and all their livestock and hay, and those people are still the lucky one's who escaped with their lives.
Even today the fire that devastated so many is still raging due to the sheer size of it. The smoke covered the city today and you can smell Victoria burning.
To make this matter worse, we are all quite sure that most of these fires were deliberately lit....this enormous human tragedy was caused by some sickos. I don't think we will recover any time soon, but the people who lost their homes are mostly staying behind to rebuild.
Today Coles Supermarkets around Australia (over 750) store have donated all profits to the Bushfire appeal. I just got back from the supermarket after spending over $200 on shopping I'll be using for the next 3 months.
If anyone, anywhere in the world wants to donate, the Red Cross Bush Fire Appeal would love your help.
http://www.redcross.org.au/default.aspWhatever you have seen on the news, and what you have heard... it's much worse than that.

At last I heard they are up to about 181 deaths (still finding more in the burnt houses), and over 1900 houses and properties destroyed. Approx 7500 homeless.
Here are some vaguely recent news articles:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... ed-21.htmlhttp://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009 ... 490241.htmAnd there are still 25 fires burning away.
My sympathies lie with my own friends whom I have lost to these fires, and the families and friends of those here who are involved wether they were they, wether they are fighting this disaster, or helping those who fight and those who survived.
I hope those that deliberately lit these fires get what they truly deserve, and so truly hope that the ones who find them are the survivors and not the police.

These pictures tell the story of thousands of peoples lives, but no pictures can truly sum up how bad it is out here...
when they catch the person/people who lit these fires, they should just make their names pubic and overlook what happens to them in the following days when they find them murdered...
Im a voulunteer for the CFA, and although i was plastered under the a/c at the pub due to our home having no power or phone lines during the actual weekend they sparked up, in the last few days i have seen countless bodies doing mop up... the things ive seen in the last week i wish no person would have to see in their lives... things burnt into my mind that keep me awake at night, people commiting suicide because they have lost everything.
there is only so much that the news and net will show you, the sheer truth of the subject tip toed around by everyone, hoping that that the harsh undercore of what has happened will just vanish

G'day Y'all
I'm in Melbourne too, bloody arsonists, deserve to be shot, and the people who take money from others, pretending to be collecting money for the appeal is despicable really (The case in Brisbane, and the 2 teens who stole money from Maccas in Thomastown that were going towards the appeal)
my friend unfortunately lost 2 relatives and her auntie lost many good friends in the Whittlesea fires :'(
I myself am fine, though i can't believe someone attempted to light a fire in East Ivanhoe which is barely a suburb away from where i am
Thanks to the people at Red Cross and people who have donated to the bushfire appeals for their awesome job. Last i heard they have collected 70Million Dollars + and that was before Coles had put their input in, and the friday night football game
@ Tees, OMG! 50 Degrees

i thought 46 was hot...

Well,
I'm actually in Albury, right on the VIC border. Beechworth and Yackandandah (about 30km away) are currently under threat. The smoke overhead has blocked out enough sun to lower the temps here by nearly 20 degrees (C) in under a week.
There's a Facebook group for people who think that the arsonists should be roasted over a spit. Personally, I hope that means they get a big metal spike shoved in their a** too.
