it seems as if my mother ship is rather low on your scale, although i care not for my mothership, hence i put so much naquada in to it and then when i get attacked i lose about half my weapons strength and shields :(

Well, MS is also good for defence. If someone is massing you then if you have a strong MS, it costs them to mass you especially if they use att planets to cheapen the attack.
