Well, yes it can.. it means work on the mods part, but it can, same as the old signature limitations were made on SIZE of FILE, as in MB, not physical size of pixels.
If that won't be done then... you need a system.
3 signatures of standard size or smaller. Max parameters 150x480pixels, or as close to within reason.(+/-10%). IE, the EPA 300 themed sig would be WAY over)
This can be called the 4 S's (Standard Size Sig Slot).
As the basic thing.
Then for the other things have...
1 Large sig = 1.5 of a sig.
1 smiley of reasonable size = 0.5 of a sig.
1 User bar = 0.5 of a sig.
Text = 0.25 of a sig PER LINE (1+ words on a line make that line count).
spoilers = 0.5 of a sig.
Still does not change the fact that phpbb does not allow a predetermined space for sigs (like with avys).
It means a lot of work for the admins as they are the only ones that can alter user's sigs.
Is there an echo?

I try to stay out of things but here is one for v2, i am sure we have people smart enough to get it to work with v3
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=383923from phpbb forum
5.3.2.2. Signature
Your signature appears, at your option, below every post you make. Signatures may be formatted using BBCode. The board administrator may specifiy a maximum length for signatures. You can check this limit by noting the line There is a x character limit. above the signature editing textbox, where x is the currently set limit.

Set it to one image per signature, it's all that's really needed, most people have their ingame name and alliance in a sig, make it a gif if you want to say something else

i don't really have a problem with this, but if you want to limit it, it should be 3 regular sized signatures (400x180) or something similar ( 1 as a personal signature, 1 alliance signature and then another for awards or anything else), 1 user bar and then another 2 lines for links or text, it would be better for people to put their signatures in spoilers like mentioned before.

The current thought is to limit the size not the number of images. So a person could have a total height allowed and fit as many images into that height as they wanted. But that is not what we are discussing.. should there be a limit, yes or no?

Earendil wrote:..As i said, and people seem to be forgetting. I talked to the Tech Admin and there is no way to set a limit on the total sig area
Technically there is not a way but you can still make a rule that limits the size and it can be enforced manually.
Once again though, this thread is to decide if there needs to be some sort of limit.

Yes there should be a limit.
It is common sense not to place 25 signatures in your signature. Yet it seems, some people are on the way to doing so
Animation? Spoilers
If they won't remove them, and we need a ruling to encourage this.. I agree with the size limit.
@Earendil : I think big sigs are going to stick out, in loading times and being reported/noticed. Tech admins can't filter out offensive sigs, and yet, many are reported and dealt with just the same.

Yes there needs to be a limit.
Height = 450 Pixels
Width = 500 Pixels
Enough for 3 standard sigs, replacing one sig with some banners.
Assuming sig height of 150 each, and Width of 500 max, personally I use 450. Although I guess it is all about the height not the width. So basically anymore than 3 standard sigs, discluding a line of text or two, would probably be reportable...

Old rule was 2 standard sig's. It worked great. When you have room for 3 sigs(lets look at semper) it is too long, on my screen semper's(example) sig takes up the full page from the botton to the top. That is EXCESSIVE. 2 sigs max would work best. It worked before, it will work well again.

HOW small is your screen? Its less than half the length and height on mine..
in the corner of the window.. there is a button that looks liks a box, click that and your window will become bigger. Should put things in perspective.. or just change the resolution on your screen.
