I can't imagine the amount of resources one would need to run a moderate PC game at moderate settings with the setup you've suggested.

Not much I have a basic q6600 with 6Gb ddr2 ram and with now what would be considered a rather inferior motherboard (asus p5k-e/wifi-AP) along with an 8800GT and this rig which is now pretty basic handles everything fine. It will run a native linux or windows system and a virtual machine of the other without any kind of performance loss.

So you dont need umlimited resources, or a hugely powerful rig.

Basic my ass! There's nothing basic about that setup. [-(

@ Stargateman:

Win7 & WinXP dualboot FTW! :-D

what does FTW mean? I'm bad at these things

FTW=For that win...Why the dual boot and not just win7?

Because right now Win7 is just a beta and still has some bugs and what not, also because WinXP has better compatibility with older games like Red Alert 2.

You speak the truth...also Red Alert 2 works on Vista better than XP it seems :)

Re: Linux

uh-huh I'll take your word for it Jack that it isnt basic but pretty much everyone I know would consider my current rig to be outdated/slow and just about what they would expect any pc to be at a minimum.

Naturally we are all PC O/C'ers, Hackers, etc etc (take your pick of title) so we might have a somewhat jaded view.

However that doesnt change the fact that 80% of tose with a PC should be able to easily afford a similar rig to mine now and it can handle virtual machines with no performance loss and will still handle playing say something like Spore/C&C3/RA3 (only recent games I've got i'm afraid for direct comparison purposes) on the windows os and still handle video processing on the linux os.

If you dont like what I post, then tough. Either dont read it or dont bother replying to it.

Vista doesn't seem to go with games like the sims, as to the point of saving haven't a clue why though. Thats why I perfer XP as Ashu already said it has better compatibility.

Re: Linux

I truely like Linux great to to use, took alittle time to learn but was well worth playing around with it. I currently run windows XP now but half tempted to put it back on my new computer i have now. Are you talking about the wine stuff for Linux to run windows app? Cause it was more than a headache for me to run it but i know people that could do it well.

I LIKE LINUX
