I don't think anyone here is saying that that can't be done. I think that the original question was more of a broad observation that spoke of generalities in modern societies.
I would agree with you that there are people with a lot of money who have a family, dog, etc. (whatever one needs to make themselves happy) and they are happy. I would also say that the discussion was more focused on driving/inspiring forces in ones life and the value they give to these things.
