Thing is, people who do 'random massings' tend to be in one of the huge alliances and their targets tend to be in a weaker, less war focused alliance.
In this case, it becomes completely one sided. The target wont fight back due to not wanting to prolong the whole thing or get their alliance dragged in to it. To me, it seems pointless to mass those targets, it'll be the same thing over and over again.
Not to mention, the targets will probably be tempted to just quit the game altogether which can only be bad for the game.
I just dont see the point in massing a target (that cant/wont fight back) for no reason. So no, I dont support random massings.

I'm not sure when 'I was bored' stopped being a good reason to destroy someone, or when people who 'mass randomly' became anathema to this community. Everybody gets their knickers in a twist about it. Omega, the supposed big bad wolf of SGW, have actually taken the time to make some hippy party political broadcast about how they're not doing it anymore. Even DDE are playing the PR game with Deni spouting the official party line earlier in this thread. Are there no alliances left anymore that just don't give a crap?
sure there are, were and will be, but they tend to not last too long. Also, I've noticed that there is a huge amount of boredom in the air. Maybe a bit of fresh air wouldn't do harm.

ooo! ooo! ooo! Pick me! PICK ME!!!!
It's no secret that I do what I want around here because you cannot really stop a non caring person.. cos ya got no leverage on them. In general, as the leader of Nemesis I would not stop my members randomly massing someone, at the same time though... I certainly do not encourage it because I am the one who has to put up with the whining afterwards, for some reason simply telling someone 'go away' does not work anymore

.
I simply maintain we're bad guys and well.. bad guys do bad things.
In a general sense random massings are... well.... fallacies of thought. No act of massing is random, only the target chosen may be.. but even that's not entirely true. No one is going to randomly mass a 300mill (yes, I said mill) defence with five spies out, so there is always a reason that target was chosen at that specific time. It's just about being man enough to admit it correctly and then live with any potential guilt of being someone who for no possibly conceivable sophisticated reason ruins another person's account...albeit generally only temporarily. (Yes I am implying boredom and the other non political/role playing reasons are idiotic excuses...)
All these wonderfully big empires are now trying to act the politically correct chaps because on some level.. they don't want to be thought of in a lesser manner than they already are.
On another note... I did not read the entire thread, but to all you people out there who sit behind that brain dead line "well it's a war game!" (you know who you are), go do us all a favour and jump off a cliff and take your negative IQ points with you. It's not a war game...it's a role playing game. Just because the game has the potential to include a lot of fighting and warring does not make it a game of that sort. It also included the potential to be a purely political macho pasturing game or economic race game. Does the fact in tomb raider you sometimes fight something make it an action game? No.. because you can explore things too.. ergo action/adventure game.
I reckon.. on a personal note.. should I mass someone and get asked why.. my next reply would be...

I support random massing. But not to increase ME or to just have fun. But so you know how to do it when it comes to wars. And to prove to others that you can hold your own and not be bullied.

So by massing people who've never seen you before/who wont be fighting back is a way to prove you can hold your own against someone who does indeed battle?
How does that work again??

somewhat more nicely put than my usual answer.
on the whole i agree with this, having a reason makes this game soo much more fun than just random massings, it is most definitely a role playing game otherwise you would be able to actually harm an account these days.
