While it's possible that the Chinese government didn't intervene because Zhu's claim was false, it's also possible that the Chinese government didn't want to admit to the rest of the world that such a thing could happen in China.

You see, while one attitude would say that a country should tell the world that it's tough on crime, another approach that some countries take is to deny that the crime ever happened.

EDIT: Why isn't it on the news? Because children watch the news and quite frankly, it's gross.

Out of topic, this is a somewhat high activity for this forum I noticed:
Users browsing this forum: [KMA]Avenger, Caprila, Greased Gerbil, RBR, Sarajevo and 0 guests
Probably due to the fact of title, and then its content.

Now, is it an urban legend or not...good question.

It seems logical that if BBQ baby were as common and widespread a practice as you claim, then we would undoubtedly have heard about it long before now. China may be a somewhat shielded state. But still, a practice like that - if it is as widespread as you claim - wouldn't stay unnoticed for more than 7 days, let alone 7 years. Also, if Western intelligence had figured this out, there would be no reason for the associated governments to conceal it for this long. It would defy the very essence of capitalist democracy: Why withhold information that could severely tarnish a communist dictatorship? The prudent course of action would be just the opposite: Make as big a deal of this as humanly possible. This is the first "deal" I've heard of this.

I'm not disputing whether or not this kind of stuff actually happens. I personally can't say either way until I see some rigorous scrutiny of the evidence - or rigorously scrutinize the evidence myself. However, I find it a little hard to believe that this is such a widespread common practice.

So this is what? Life imitating art or the other way around?

 This baby soup thing ties in wonderfully with the other thread about 'problems with overpopulation'. *grin*
Though I would prefer it if they'd use them for stem cell research instead of a culinary miracle.

(The reason I laugh, is because I don't believe any of this kind of anti-Chinese bull launched en masse by Westerners who are afraid to lose their money to a mob of angry Chinese debt-collectors.)

Indeed.

ps. I do believe some sick **Filtered** is going on here and there, and everywhere.. I have seen African witch-doctors first hand -as an example of sick **Filtered**. And what to think about those 'vampire cults', people who have nothing better to do but drink blood of other humans?
Ah well.. in the long run, all these things, human lives, human behaviour, and whatnot, are insignificant.
