yes, the difference is there... and no, you wont be warned for the example...
if you want to swear use "curses" or "*******" (thats 7 of * )

i stated there is, but asked if it's really SO big that one counts as every normal post while the other deserves a warning? if word is masked by system it 100% is a curse word while word masked by a person may be some *ok* word which normally wouldn't be masked by system and could offend some individuals.
If masking done by person deserves a warning, the a filters masking does as well. In both cases it's mostly cursing. Or at least give verbal warning before a full warning is given.

and you as mod are expected not to spam serious discussions and arguments and act respectively to other forum users (leading by example anyone?). And if normal forum user did that, it would be a warning i guess. Now instead of spamming, answer me? if i'm not asking too much.

the filter is there to save mods work, and to give users less warnings...

I do listen, but really noone's answering my main concern... WHY is it making so big of a difference that one case deserves a direct full warning while other isnt even noticed by any mod...
i understand your point, but honestly a direct full warning is way too much - verbal yes, and a full one if one continues to do the same - but not directly without pre-warning. It just isn't in pair with rl threats, other site's advertising, personal insults, etc. - is this one deserves a warnong, those deserve an immediate ban.

also mods (as opposed to some RP) are not omnipotent. THAT is why we have the report function.
it amases me how many people argue on that "my post was modded, what about that one?" basis. really, it is rediculous. we've said MANY times, report posts. REPORT POSTS.
also as far as usernotes are concerned, it should be common imo to view them and then use it as a factor in warnings there on in. if a user has a history of disruption, it will show. if someone doesn't, then maybe a post edit + verbal warning? but hey, that inst the case here.

out of curiosity why isnt retarded filtered? it seems way more offensive then some of the other terms that are filtered (and im not talking just about curse words).

i didnt mean it as a joke was just trying to ask a serious question. i work for a company in sumner washington called Vadis that ONLY employees people with developmental disabilities so ive just been trained to find that word offensive when out of context.
just like if i were to say your retarded and mean it as an insult it seems a shot at people of disabilities. just seemed more offensive then other words that are filtered like **Filtered**. which in a sense is offensive in the same way

just checkin since it didnt seem like a very useful or serious answer from a usually thoughtful person
well like you said that word has no proper use 99% of the time which is exactly how i feel about the word retarded being thrown around as it is.
i shall leave now though and not cloud your forum space here and go back to the reading threads in general

Interesting as your user notes say otherwise.
I count ... let me see ... 6 (yes six) warnings for masking and I do not see any record of a verbal warning.
Odd isn't it?
