Aus v England is shaping up as a cracker of a 2nd round match. So long as we win big against Ghana and get a point against Serbia we should go through. Any result against Germany will be a bonus. Many players in Australia are of Serb/Yugoslav origin, so we are pretty familiar with the style of play already.

Would be funny if New Zealand knock over Italy, only because we couldn't do it in 06. I agree that group 1 is ugly, but don't write off the North Koreans in group 7. I can imagine one of Kim Jong Il's cronies is probably slave driving them 24 hours a day in training hiding away in the mountains.

i have a funny feeling you won't you only came third in world cup because of what seems to be a significant home advantage.

remember, no country has ever won outside of their own continent- apart from brazil. maybe this will continue...

My picks for the teams to progress from the group stage. Group 4 is the 'group of death' without a doubt.

Group 1
* Uruguay
* France

Group 2
* Argentina
* South Korea

Group 3
* England
* USA

Group 4
* Germany
* Serbia

Group 5
* Netherlands
* Japan

Group6
* Italy
* Paraguay

Group 7
* Brasil
* Portugal

Group 8
* Spain
* Honduras

Group 7 was already labeled group of death ;) look at the 3 teams in it, either one could get knocked out, were as we know Germany will get out of said group you think is group of death :razz:

Because it contains the massively overrated Ivory Coast and North Korea? Which monkey labelled it the group of death?

Look at group 4. You have two teams that finished with 48 points between them in qualifying, both top of their group (Serbia and Germany), another that relatively easily swept aside the competition in the Asian qualifying (Australia) and again finished top of their group and finally Ghana, perhaps the underdog, but still capable having also finished top of their group.

I've seen Ivory coast play in there last few games and they are no over rated side, on there day they have the players to beat anyone, i never said North Korea (there awful). Portugal will find it tough in this group i assure you ;)
Its not much to sweep through Asia mate, Serbia and Germany are to powerful and technically superior to let Austrailia cause them problems.
But lets not agrue, lets just wait and see whats happens :-D

Each to their own perceptions of reality! :lol:

It will certainly be an interesting one. Just glad we dumped the wolly brolly man after our last qualification fiasco and now have a manager who can actually win something. Definitely looking forward to playing the USA too! ;)

ivory coast definately arent overrated. they have a couple of top premiership players, which has to count for something. I mean so long as the efence does reasonably well, drogba could possibly pull them through the group above portugal if he has a couple of good games

Brazil might not even be in the world cup so i wouldn't count on them getting too far lads and lasses

it'll be a european final i think
